    I was a file clerk for 13 years but only took one vacation. It took me three weeks to catch up from that one week off. it all just piled up and by the time I got caught up I was exhausted and needed another vacation! After that I took mini-vacations by taking Friday and Tuesday off when we had 3 day weekends. It would be almost a week off but not so much catching up.

    I know that scene all too well. Sometimes one could wonder if it’s even worth taking a vacation!

    If you really enjoy the work, you never need a vacation.

    @Bruce Lee

    I’m union also, But don’t know any union that pays triple time. And I don’t get paid vacations. We get some money in a vacation fund. But not much.

    Lynn’s Notes:
    No thoughts for today’s strip.

    MY thoughts for the day…. the library boss is pretty but not much of a worker for the library. I would have picked up the slack if someone was out.

    = > That’s just how I’d feel (frustrated and overwhelmed, but satisfyingly, refreshingly needed). Maybe that’s why “For Better or for Worse” has been my favorite comic strip since it first appeared. I identify with the characters so much. (I even have a son the same age as Michael.)

    Looks like she at least has job security.

    I agree! While it’s nice to be “needed”, that’s ridiculous how much they piled up on her desk!

    Yes and they didn’t even ask about your child Elly!

    Well, the library lady didn’t mention Ellie was on vacation, Ellie was simply ‘off work’ while Elizabeth was sick. And she, thoughtlessly, did not ask after the health of her daughter. Strike one against the boss. Strike two is Ellie putting away books before being told she has 2 major projects, in an unorganized pile, on her desk.

    Half a ‘Strike’ removed because Ellie has a desk!
    Another half a ‘Strike’ removed because Ellie feels missed and needed.

    Like Mneedle says, “If you enjoy the work, you never need a vacation (to get away from the work, that is)”.

    As for me, those shelves won’t jump on the walls (and stay there) by themselves, so I need to use my ‘time off’ and Get ’er done!

    Brings back fond memories. I felt indispensable when it happened to me.

    I worked for an aerospace firm that had union workers. They paid triple time for holiday work because in addition to the double time for the work, they got holiday pay too. Too bad that didn’t carry over to the non-union workers like me.
