Ahhhhhh…she’s adorable! She doesn’t understand how she could hurt the hamster. She needs a substitute stuffed hamster to practice how to handle them.

That is one of the many reasons you don’t give small children living toys to play with. They can and will be very rough with them. Kill them in fact accidentally.

Since the hamster is a guest, and does not belong to the family, Lizzie should not be allowed to play with it anyway.

And think how bad Lizzie would feel if she even accidentally caused the hamster any harm.

    Lynn’s Notes:
As kids, we were allowed to have a pet if it was very small, didn’t require too much upkeep, and had a short lifespan. At first, my brother and I were host to chameleons – tiny little lizards which came from the pet shop with chains attached around their necks and a pin so you could attach them to your shirt! I don’t remember them changing colour at all, but they did eat live mealworms, which was a cool thing to watch. Perhaps we overfed them or maybe we played with them too much, because they never lived very long. Fortunately, this rather barbaric way of packaging creatures is no longer permitted.

That’s sweet, but Lizzie doesn’t understand that a big hug could hurt that hamster. The hamsters is Not Edger.

It’s a good thing there was a responsible adult there to supervise the handling of the hamster and to keep Lizzie from hurting Humphrey. Unfortunately that adult’s name was Michael.

My baby sister had a hamster. I’ll never forget what she said one day with a huge smile: “If I squeeze him real hard his eyes bulge!”

Lizzie should not be allowed to touch a living animal until she can speak in coherent sentences (which appears to be the eigth day of NEVER).
