Since its debut in 1979, For Better or For Worse has touched comic strip readers as few cartoons ever do. Cartoonist Lynn Johnston’s eye for detail and her uncanny sense of what real parents and children struggle with daily are a big part of her success. The world has watched the Patterson family grow up in real time, and to many readers, the Pattersons feel like family!
Parents and children alike will relate to the obstacles that the Patterson family faces. Curfews, parent date nights, babysitting, pets and distractions are all hurdles that the Pattersons must overcome in order to enjoy each other as a family. They face the same obstacles that real life families do, which is what makes them so loveable.

Wait a few decades, Michael. Then every month, every year will feel short.

They call these the “Golden Years”. Why? Because every time you stand up, you feel like you have to pee.

I wonder if I’m the only person on this planet who actually LIKES winter.
Yes, I love snow and cold weather—especially when I’m in my cozy apartment, LOL.
Seriously, I’ll take winter’s cold over summer’s heat ANY day!

I don’t mind the cold…don’t like the wind. I don’t mind the summer…don’t like the humidity!! I know, I’ m fussy!!

I don’t love the cold, but I do appreciate having 4 seasons with a cold winter. Makes me appreciate spring so much more!

We’ve had “spring behavior” in our trees and irises 3 times already! now we have winter!
Blah! Will we have enough cold to kill the mosquitoes? Doubt it!
In the low country of South Carolina, the Azalias have already begun to bloom with a fury! Summerville’s Azalia Festival has had to change their name to Flowertown Festival, since all the azalias have already bloomed and gone by the time they have it.

I agree with you since I sweat bullets in the humidity. But I am getting tired of winter.

Lynn’s Notes:
In Vancouver where I grew up, February could be four weeks of cold, bone-chilling rain. Now that I live in Ontario, February is a month of safe outdoor activity. Snow machines, and even trucks, ply the surface of the lakes. With the consistent low temperature driving can even be easier. Some folks look forward to February. Fishermen and skiers wait all year for a time when they can thoroughly enjoy their sport. Friends ask me which I prefer: the rain of the west coast or the cold of Ontario, and it’s a toss-up. For me, either way, the month of February will always be far too long!

Some people steadfastly maintain Spring or even Summer wear. But then it doesn’t get very cold for very long here in S. Texas.

No, Susan, you’re not alone. While we don’t get the snow and freezing temps, it gets pretty cold around here at night. It sure beats the 100+ temps in the summertime! I can always put on a jacket in the winter. I can’t always strip down enough to be comfortable in the summer (especially not in public).

A Will Rogers movie was where his daughter mused about meeting a great guy and how the prom was next year; to which a year takes so long to pass. Will Rogers remarked: “When you start paying taxes, you will not think a year takes too long to pass.”
