Since its debut in 1979, For Better or For Worse has touched comic strip readers as few cartoons ever do. Cartoonist Lynn Johnston’s eye for detail and her uncanny sense of what real parents and children struggle with daily are a big part of her success. The world has watched the Patterson family grow up in real time, and to many readers, the Pattersons feel like family!
Parents and children alike will relate to the obstacles that the Patterson family faces. Curfews, parent date nights, babysitting, pets and distractions are all hurdles that the Pattersons must overcome in order to enjoy each other as a family. They face the same obstacles that real life families do, which is what makes them so loveable.

So what if Mr. Patterson gives his consent for the kids to stay up? 5 will get you 10 that they’ll never make it to the midnight hour.;-D

Of course he’ll say yes. When it comes to his kids, inside, he’s pure marshmallow.

It’s not like the kids are the ones who need to go to bed early.

I haven’t stayed up to see the New Year come in for years.
I mean—big deal!
Just another lousy year.

Here everyone has always stayed up till midnight, because we have those traditional fireworks that start at 0:05
At 0:30 it finishes and everyone rushes to grab the toothpaste first.

@daniel_bel
Please explain: I don’t understand about the toothpaste.

Lynn’s Notes:
My kids used to beg to stay up until midnight, and if there was no party planned, we’d say yes – hoping they’d pass out well before the ball descended the post in Times Square. More than once they woke us up to tell us the New Year had come.

I don’t watch the ball fall anymore. So what?

yep, always sleep through it and unless a neighbor pops some fireworks, I never know when it is midnight.

We stay up til it’s midnight in NYC. (10pm here). When the ball drops with Cooper and Griffin, we’re done

What do they intend to do til 12? Watch tv? Eat? Don’t give them anything with sugar or they’ll never get to bed!
