Since its debut in 1979, For Better or For Worse has touched comic strip readers as few cartoons ever do. Cartoonist Lynn Johnston’s eye for detail and her uncanny sense of what real parents and children struggle with daily are a big part of her success. The world has watched the Patterson family grow up in real time, and to many readers, the Pattersons feel like family!
Parents and children alike will relate to the obstacles that the Patterson family faces. Curfews, parent date nights, babysitting, pets and distractions are all hurdles that the Pattersons must overcome in order to enjoy each other as a family. They face the same obstacles that real life families do, which is what makes them so loveable.

all depends on how they’re prepared. I LOVE them… roasted etc.. just not with oil drizzled over them.

My kids almost always find a food tastes way better when they picked it themselves. The food preparation would have to be pretty bad to put them off at least trying it. Of course, one of the running jokes in this comic strip is how poor a cook Elly Patterson is, so…

My son loves to plant, tend and harvest tomatoes, peppers, onions and carrots. He is very proud. But he won’t eat them! The rest of us are loving them though- they are wonderful!

Try some, Lizzie. I don’t believe you until you show me you “hate” them. ;-)

No. 1: Yesterday someone passed along her (I think it was a “her”) disappointment that, as she recalled, Lynn did not pursue yesterday’s confrontation between Elly and Arnold. Upon reflection, I feel that it wouldn’t have been too good for Elly to have a major dustup with her brother-in-law’s hired hand. Decent help (even male-chauvinist help) can be hard to find.
No. 2, it looks as though all the stove burners on on. That wouldn’t be good, either.

DH pickled some beets he grew. He says they are great and he is very proud of himself. I don’t like beets.

I can remember when I was a toddler in the supermarket, and I picked a jar of beets because I liked the pretty red color.
Then, I had to eat them.
YUCK!!!

I too, don’t care for COOKED beets, but give me pickled beets or cooked beet greens (when the little beets are about the size of your pinky nail), and I’ll show you a real trick! Even beats spinach, which I also love.
