Since its debut in 1979, For Better or For Worse has touched comic strip readers as few cartoons ever do. Cartoonist Lynn Johnston’s eye for detail and her uncanny sense of what real parents and children struggle with daily are a big part of her success. The world has watched the Patterson family grow up in real time, and to many readers, the Pattersons feel like family!
Parents and children alike will relate to the obstacles that the Patterson family faces. Curfews, parent date nights, babysitting, pets and distractions are all hurdles that the Pattersons must overcome in order to enjoy each other as a family. They face the same obstacles that real life families do, which is what makes them so loveable.

He should have stayed out there and made a crop circle pattern while he was at it.

wonder how many bushels of wheat were lost with that shortcut. farmers have a very tight profit margin.

I don’t think Arnold is going to have a lot of eager helpers at his next barn raising.

measure the damage and charge Arnold the cost of his escapade. Dah,is not a valid excuse.

Some of the people who have done the crop circles have been prosecuted for severe damage to the crops.I figure that any farmer that allows it in the first place is because it’s a bad year on prices or the yield isn’t what they need it to be.

why do so many of the non-regular characters have buck teeth in this comic?

That’s how Lynn represents stupidity or general awfulness. Kind of insulting to people with buck teeth, what?

What Arnold (named after the pig on “Green Acres”?) did was way worse than what people used to do in my office. I’d show them a map, and they’d draw on it with a ball-point pen, or I’d show them a book, and they’d lick their fingers to turn pages.
Ugh! I’d object.

This Arnold must be the rural version of Ted.

Actually, I think that trend began with Disney’s Goofy.

Lynn’s Notes:
One morning, I awoke to a strange noise. I looked out the window to see the wheat field parting like the red sea. In a cloud of dust, smoke, and flying chaff, Freddy Parkinson (Don’s brother-in-law and neighbour) was driving towards the house on an old snowmobile. He roared into the yard and then calmly announced that he’d come for coffee.
