Since its debut in 1979, For Better or For Worse has touched comic strip readers as few cartoons ever do. Cartoonist Lynn Johnston’s eye for detail and her uncanny sense of what real parents and children struggle with daily are a big part of her success. The world has watched the Patterson family grow up in real time, and to many readers, the Pattersons feel like family!
Parents and children alike will relate to the obstacles that the Patterson family faces. Curfews, parent date nights, babysitting, pets and distractions are all hurdles that the Pattersons must overcome in order to enjoy each other as a family. They face the same obstacles that real life families do, which is what makes them so loveable.

John & Ellie Patterson here are like Jon Arbuckle & Liz Wilson of “Garfield”: she’s the fashion police officer and he’s the fashion criminal.

“A virtuous woman whocan find? For her price is greater than rubies.” Proverbs 32. Jon is blessed to have a good woman in Ellie, as are we all.

And yet, Elly’s the one who got all bent out of shape the one time that John criticized her wardrobe choice. Hypocritical much, Elly?

What is it about wives turning their husbands into their children????
Why doesn’t she at least coordinate his suit-coats, ties, and shirts while they’re still in the closet, like other women do for their SO’s?

I rather liked that first shirt, although I will agree with Elly about the tie.

Not the kind that could get him fired for being late, obviously.

@gmartin997 – Hard to fire the man who owns and runs his own business as John does.

Women always wait until you are dressed before they start criticizing your appearance. They have a keen ability to generate the most irritation for the least effort.

I once knew a man who was both red/green and blue/orange color blind. I could always tell when his wife hadn’t chosen his clothes for the day.

And I have two daughters who think they are a first sergeant when it comes to how I dress.

It’s red/green blue/yellow. I know because that’s my BIL. He bought a compound bow, thinking it was navy blue. It was months before someone had the heart to tell him it was hot pink.

I wondered. So I’m late, what are you going to do to me?
