Since its debut in 1979, For Better or For Worse has touched comic strip readers as few cartoons ever do. Cartoonist Lynn Johnston’s eye for detail and her uncanny sense of what real parents and children struggle with daily are a big part of her success. The world has watched the Patterson family grow up in real time, and to many readers, the Pattersons feel like family!
Parents and children alike will relate to the obstacles that the Patterson family faces. Curfews, parent date nights, babysitting, pets and distractions are all hurdles that the Pattersons must overcome in order to enjoy each other as a family. They face the same obstacles that real life families do, which is what makes them so loveable.

Nice to see the good old typewriter back in style. I always knew these fancy “computer” things were just a passing fad.

With a kid like that, soon she’ll go from “temper mental” to just plain “mental.”
And it’s not a typewritter–it’s an environmentally friendly, wireless, manually operated multipurpose word processor (with limited storage capacity) and printer. Use that the next time you’re selling your old typewritter on eBay!

So I guess we’re being shown how Michael got interested in writing. Good thing he got started before he had kids!

Come on, Jon, be a good father and take Michael and Lizzy somewhere for a couple hours.

From the Elly Patterson School of Parenting:
When you need time to write and your child is bugging you, do you?
a. Ask your husband to keep your child occupied?
b. Pick a room to write where you can lock the door?
c. Ask the child politely to give mommy some time alone to write?
d. Scream at your child until they leave?
If you picked (d), then you pass the test. Congratulations!
As a side note, since Lynn Johnston has reintroduced the typewriter, I think we can expect a reprint of the “Oreo in the typewriter” strip.

My old Royal manual has been kept for 30 years to remind me of how it got me an English degree and all the job offers I will someday get because of that degree..

I work out of my home and home school my son. He shares my office - sometimes I react exactly as Elly when I’m trying to work and he, avoiding school, is trying to chat.

Just a quick note….
Lynn said at FBORFW today, that she goofed on the “Frank” the fish. She forgot he was really named Fred.
The new stuffed Farley dog should be ready for sale Dec. 15. It had trouble passing the safety codes. You can see it at FBORFW.

Wait’ll Elly gets her hands all dirty trying to change the typewriter ribbon.
Then she’ll REALLY have a cow!

I can definitely relate to that. That’s a good example of why writers need a retreat to get their work done. There are usually far too many distractions at home.

summerdog: lose the “R”. Lynn’s website is fbofw.com
summerdog said, 11 days ago
You will get the site if you use the “R” or not, Jan. There is a FBOFW.com and a FBORFW.com. So you can’t do it wrong.
I just noticed… if you look up top between the fourth and fifth panels it says…

My roomate types on a typewriter. I walked out of the shower yesterday to the sound of tappity-tap-tappity-tap-tap-tappity. When I made it to the room and figured out what that bleeep noise was, I exclaimed, “ah, the sounds of antiquation”.
