Since its debut in 1979, For Better or For Worse has touched comic strip readers as few cartoons ever do. Cartoonist Lynn Johnston’s eye for detail and her uncanny sense of what real parents and children struggle with daily are a big part of her success. The world has watched the Patterson family grow up in real time, and to many readers, the Pattersons feel like family!
Parents and children alike will relate to the obstacles that the Patterson family faces. Curfews, parent date nights, babysitting, pets and distractions are all hurdles that the Pattersons must overcome in order to enjoy each other as a family. They face the same obstacles that real life families do, which is what makes them so loveable.

Hmm, someone neglected to colour Elly’s face a decidedly darker shade of pink in the last panel, as well as forgetting to add the plumes of steam hissing out of her ears….
She’s a gonna blow!!! Run fer yer lives!!! :o))

Let the woman do something for herself! Sheesh!

Dr. John Patterson is a throwback from the Stone Age. Reminds me of Fred Flintstone.
cdward said, about 1 month ago
Weren’t these old strips originally done roughly the same time as the Flintstones?

Simultaneously belly dancing and creative cooking in the kitchen? This I gotta see!

Hee hee, OpenWings! Volcano Elly! (p.s. thanks for your nice comment yesterday. Maybe my post explains my low tolerance for mean people. I think most of us have had our fair share of them.) :-)

Seriously. I normally get a chuckle out of the fact that John’s somewhat clueless (if not downright ignorant), but even I had to roll my eyes at THIS latest remark of his. In fact, I think I rolled them so hard, they may not roll back into normal position for a week!
Go on, Elly. Smack him with that brochure. I know I want you to!

actually, belly dancing is excellent exercise…not to mention that it takes a LOT of muscle control and stamina.

Didn’t we just see something like this a couple weeks ago where he suggested she take a cooking course? Now he’s added belly dancing, something else real “useful”? I wish he’d take a course in communications, maybe a class on men are from mars and women from venus, something like that.

Maybe pole dancing?

Ellie does the everyday cooking; John should take up the gourmet cooking. That’s what I do.
And John, you should have suggested belly dancing before two kids. Or at least let Ellie want this for herself.
Actually the creative writing would be excellent.

Hey, John boy, it might do you well to take up a bit of belly dancing for your shelf yourself.

I wonder why Lynn gave us this re-done strip so soon after the same one appeared already this month? What is her point?

at least my husband knows better than to act like that, or it’s a Gibb’s slap upside the head

Fred Flintstone would NEVER allow Wilma to study belly-dancing.
Hell, he threw a fit when she went behind his back and took judo lessons!
Now, lessons in gourmet cooking–anything that satisfies Fatso Fred’s gluttony was OK with him.

Good for Elly, I wonder why this strip is back so soon though.

Maybe it’s back so soon cuz John didn’t get it the first time!
mroberts88 said, about 1 month ago
That may have something to do with it.

john might be worried that elly might do something to make herself more successful than he is

That’s funny…I was just at the FBORFW site, and today’s comic posted there for Oct. 19, is something different than the one here.
howtheduck said, about 1 month ago
The strip on the FBORFW site is marked as 10-20, the comic strip originally intended for tomorrow.

John must like sleeping on the couch!
summerdog said, about 1 month ago
You’re right, duck. When you click on the “today’s strip” (19th) button you get a strip with 10/20 written in it.
Somebody has goofed somewhere.

lightenup if you have a low tolerance for mean people, you sure don’t show it that often! I think my own tolerance level in that department is pretty low, and I have a lot of trouble hiding it sometimes, even though I really should try harder. Mean people usually don’t care that much, and all it does is stress ME out if I let it get to me! Oh well! :o)
LOL legaleagle48 hope your eyes are okay now :o))

OpenWings – you sound just like me, but I’m learning to ignore the usual meanies. I have pissed off Louiseitis before and he/she left all sorts of bitter comments about me, which burned me up. When that happens, I just stick to reading the nice commenters or don’t post until I’m ready to join the ruckus again. I will be sure and always read yours now… :-)

summerdog, I think she messed up, since in the earlier strip Elly said she was too late for the creative writing class, but the strip needs to go on, she’s actually taking the class.

hahaha belly dancing. sounds like something my husband would suggest.
