Since its debut in 1979, For Better or For Worse has touched comic strip readers as few cartoons ever do. Cartoonist Lynn Johnston’s eye for detail and her uncanny sense of what real parents and children struggle with daily are a big part of her success. The world has watched the Patterson family grow up in real time, and to many readers, the Pattersons feel like family!
Parents and children alike will relate to the obstacles that the Patterson family faces. Curfews, parent date nights, babysitting, pets and distractions are all hurdles that the Pattersons must overcome in order to enjoy each other as a family. They face the same obstacles that real life families do, which is what makes them so loveable.

There ya go John. I like how he gets all happy in the last panel.

For a happily single guy that would be a tragedy, not remembering what’s important.

John’s either a total nerd, or he’s been married too long.

He’s thinking like a dentist, what’s wrong with her teeth not what’s right with her body.

John must be thinking “a couple more house payments will be in the bank!”

Something “clicked” with John when he figured out who the blonde really is. That’s a male “well, alright!” look on his face.
Go get her, tiger!

I think it’s an anterior HYPERplasia he has in mind. At least his assistant does.

If Ellie could have seen this conversation, John would have been treated like a KING at home for a long time.

John may well just be a happily married man who isn’t thinking of women that way.
He may also just be a ‘good actor’.
I’ve not noticed many women in my time.

Doc’; I’ve noticed lots of people in my time and lots of them were women. Probably why I am going to be single again soon. Papers are already signed.

I was a missionary in Guatemala and during one of my door approaches I apparently spoke to a woman who wasn’t wearing any pants, or so the other Elder told me. Also, learned to ignore the full-display breastfeeding in the middle of lessons that oh-so-frequently happened. Oh, the power of obliviousness.
Joe Allen Doty said, about 1 month ago
Bender_Sastre, would a calf nursing at the udder of its mother bother you? That’s no different from a human mother breastfeeding a baby.
Women’s breasts and men’s pectorals (actually just male breasts) are actually secondary sex organs.
Sometimes, men, and women, are offended by seeing a woman’s bare breasts; but, when they see a man without a shirt, they think nothing of it.
John is not like the womanizing Ted who works in the same building. Ted is not only vulgar; he still lives with his mother.
My mother thought that men shouldn’t go topless in public either. It was okay for them to be uncovered above the waist if they were going swimming.

DUUHHHH! John as a dentist should know better what the patient with her appearance and body look like.
Sheeshhhh! Rolled my eyes up/down! Sighhh!

So what is she, the instigating lesbian? Where’s Elly?

Is it safe to say that John only cares about teeth and Ellie is his one true love?
bald 716 said, about 1 month ago
john remembers only the clinical aspect of his patients, he isn’t a perv

I like to think so, Coffee-Turtle

I like both the dentist mentality and the male aspect of his “dawning moment”. It’s cute.

If it had been Ted to whom Jean was speaking, he would definately have remembered her Playboy figure and tight wardrobe.
Bender_Sastre said, about 1 month ago
Joe Allen, I’m not biochemically wired to find cow udders arousing. Human mammary organs, on the other hard, do garner that sort of response. Whether that’s evolution, intelligent design, or modern media programming telling me that, you decide.
Besides, I said I learned to ignore it. Point being, one learns to ignore unimportant details in professions that require practitioners to observe discretion.

Hey, I don’t know about everyone else, but shirtless men make me rather ill. Most men don’t look like the Chippendale ones that get all the press. They look like pears wearing tight-fitting shorts.
Body hair makes it worse.
Burgundy2 said, about 1 month ago
MaxStarmanJones And it always seems that it’s the guys who are not buff like Chippendales that like to go around with their shirt off.
