Since its debut in 1979, For Better or For Worse has touched comic strip readers as few cartoons ever do. Cartoonist Lynn Johnston’s eye for detail and her uncanny sense of what real parents and children struggle with daily are a big part of her success. The world has watched the Patterson family grow up in real time, and to many readers, the Pattersons feel like family!
Parents and children alike will relate to the obstacles that the Patterson family faces. Curfews, parent date nights, babysitting, pets and distractions are all hurdles that the Pattersons must overcome in order to enjoy each other as a family. They face the same obstacles that real life families do, which is what makes them so loveable.

When life gives you pumpkins, make pumpkin pie!

Very true, Bob. Very true! :-)

Doing that which Elly describes for a family business is one thing. But if she was to ply her trade for a major corporation, the novelty would wear off very, very quickly.

You don’t have to settle for pumpkin pie when there are so many other pumpkin desserts. I have a pumpkin crunch cake recipe that is to die for.

“Brains”, Elly? How many do you have?
Bob said, about 1 month ago
Anyone have a Rita’s by them? They have a pumpkin pie ice this month (along with a caramel apple) that is out of this world!
Rita’s Ices = Bob’s weakness

Elly should work part time if she needs to get out of the house. I did that when the kids were small…. it was great!
newworldmozart said, about 1 month ago
All moms need to get out of the house once in a while (sometimes daily) just to talk with other adults. And no husbands don’t count. A woman needs to talk thro their ‘problems’ to work them out. Best if that talk is with other women.

I just love having somebody around who always has to correct or explain things, “brains”. It’s almost as bad as the experts on raising kids, dishing out the their form of advice.

One thing Elly forgot to say: “More than anything else, I just LOVED being with John’s sweet, considerate friend Ted.”

Pumpkin pie ice cream is good. Elly had a good time, but I wonder what if she had to do it constantly.

uhh, sorry to be totally un-conversational and not-paying-attention-y, but what does pumpkin pie have to do with anything??
(yes i said ‘not-paying-attention-y’… leave me and my weird made-up words alone!)
OpenWings said, about 1 month ago
kellijellibelli - read the last panel of the strip!
Then go blame EarlWash and Bob for getting the ball (…or pumpkin) rolling :o)

back to reality…elly realizes she can be valuable outside the home

You didn’t offend me at all Burgundy2. Lightenup was merely asking a retoracle question and it always seems that there is somebody in the audience ready to jump all over a person to make themselves appear somehow smarter or better than others, a pet peeve of mine and not what forums are all about.
Burgundy2 said, about 1 month ago
Sorry discoEd, I thought it was an honest question. I shall contain my enthusiasm in the future.
And sorry, Lightenup, if I offended you.
