Since its debut in 1979, For Better or For Worse has touched comic strip readers as few cartoons ever do. Cartoonist Lynn Johnston’s eye for detail and her uncanny sense of what real parents and children struggle with daily are a big part of her success. The world has watched the Patterson family grow up in real time, and to many readers, the Pattersons feel like family!
Parents and children alike will relate to the obstacles that the Patterson family faces. Curfews, parent date nights, babysitting, pets and distractions are all hurdles that the Pattersons must overcome in order to enjoy each other as a family. They face the same obstacles that real life families do, which is what makes them so loveable.

Sense of humor?!?? HUMOR?? Pffft!!
Besides, Ted still lives with Mommy - ‘nuff said!
OpenWings said, about 1 month ago
‘nuff said…. well, almost! ;-)
Because if John actually thinks what Ted said was humor, then he’ll never see Ted the way you do Elly. Simple as that.

No, John, Ted can control his mouth alright. He just doesn’t WANT to…at everyone else’s expense. Very selfish.

Mom needs to pound some manners into him.

I agree with Elly, Ted is a jerk, who CONSTANTLY puts his foot in his mouth.
Avolunteer said, about 1 month ago
I agree with gweedo; but maybe Ted is still with his Mommy because he is so socially a 9 year old boy! (and he doesn’t seem to want to grow up.)

So, John did not stick up for Elly and defend her, he did not say, “Hey, Ted that’s my wife you’re talking about!” He just let it slide. Elly should have blasted him into next year, then let John have it as well. NO woman should have to put up with that sort of garbage.

I work with people like that. The only difference is that now we have to be PC, so they have to curb any sexist tendencies. On the other hand, since they work with computers, and not the public, their social ineptness is tolerated.

John is talking about TED putting his foot in his mouth?
I’m surprised that John has even room for food in his mouth….he’s the one with HIS foot in his mouth all the time. Haven’t we seen this for weeks and weeks from John lately?

It was the 80’s the old boys-will-be-boys mentality was still around. People always try to find an excuse for someones bad behavior. When my daughter was being bullied in elementary school one of the moms blew it off as kids-will-be-kids.

Excuse me, but….Isn’t not defending your wife some kind of Emotional Abuse?? If so, maybe that’s the reason why Lynn kicked her Husband to the Curb, & maybe Elly should do the same!!
gaebie said, about 1 month ago
Let me take the devil’s advocate position:
John didn’t think about standing up for Elly because he enjoys a comment like that, Elly is good looking and John is proud of her. My wife is gorgeous and I know other men look at her and I am proud of her. (OK-after writing that I realize looking is ok but I WOULD defend her with that comment)
Second, with all the commenting about Lynn’s divorce(’s), we have only heard one side - her side, What is his story, and what is the truth?

teds mother didn’t do a very good job at raising him
you never disrespect someones family like that

I believe the reason that Ted acts like he does is because his Father acted close to the same way. And his mom wasn’t allowed to interfere in the raising of the son. That’s why he is still single. I’m glad my Husband takes more after his mom than his Dad, I wouldn’t have married if he was more like his Dad.

If my wife knew what I was really like, she probably wouldn’t have married me. Guess that is why we are separating …

Not that I defend John or Ted, but what Ted said was meant as a compliment - crude and rude, yes, but he was, in his own immature way, complimenting her. And John probably hears the bleep often enough that he doesn’t pay it much mind.
I was similarly “complimented” by a co-worker, only it was rather more sexually explicit Of course, I got him suspended.

With Ted being an adult its doubtful his mom would have any control over him. Ted’s mom needs to kick Ted out of the house Ted is too old to live with mommy.
And John has picked up too many bad habit from Ted.
Burgundy said, about 1 month ago
Too bad you settled for just a suspension Burg2, I too had an experience at work similar to this. I met with my lawyer and ended up with a settlement that allowed me to quit the place and start up my own business.

me either. Elle…
At least John chose a good woman… his male friends leave a lot to be desired. :-D

A man who has a attitude toward women shouldn’t even be a family practice physician.
Any man with as much education as he has and is a professional should not be rude at work.
Ted met Elly before even since the strip has been revised and updated.

I absolutely agree with Elly about Ted, immature jerk. Ted needs to put his feet in his own mouth! Period!
Burgundy2 said, about 1 month ago
Dang! Burgundy wish I’d known you a few years ago…

Ted should cultivate some other men friends and let Ted stay home with Mommy. Ted reminds me of Howard McNear on The Andy Griffith Show. Mommy’s boy.
L.E.May said, about 1 month ago
Well, hello! I meant to say John in my post should cultivate, etc.
ladyfingers86 said, about 1 month ago
Right on, Joe Allen Doty! Ted acted too unprofessional.
Susan001 said, about 1 month ago
John allows Ted to insult Elly, and then he defends Ted???
Elly should just pack her bags and leave! And leave HIM with the kids! He and Ted are birds of a feather.
BTW, Ted isn’t “socially inept”; he’s an ASS!
mroberts88 said, about 1 month ago
Susan, maybe Elly should just say something.
