Since its debut in 1979, For Better or For Worse has touched comic strip readers as few cartoons ever do. Cartoonist Lynn Johnston’s eye for detail and her uncanny sense of what real parents and children struggle with daily are a big part of her success. The world has watched the Patterson family grow up in real time, and to many readers, the Pattersons feel like family!
Parents and children alike will relate to the obstacles that the Patterson family faces. Curfews, parent date nights, babysitting, pets and distractions are all hurdles that the Pattersons must overcome in order to enjoy each other as a family. They face the same obstacles that real life families do, which is what makes them so loveable.

Poor Elly with the clothes. Good that she can laugh about it though.

How could she help but laugh? After the kids are gone, of course.

The wagging in panties thing just kills me!

I don’t see Farley’s tail wagging. But he IS smiling.
Good sport.

Better on the dog than on the boys.

She really needs to get a picture of this.

If you have kids, at some point something they’ve done will have made you mad & busted you up laughing at the same time.

At least she’ll be getting new underwear now :P

@NotNorman, because she’s the one who has to re-do the laundry. Plus, do you want to encourage the kids to do it again?
@plus4, too right! :)

I don’t know if I could have not laughed if my son had done something like this.
Somehow, I would have tried to convince him not to do it again.

I found that bras make excellent kite tails. You can only do it once though…That was fifty years ago and is still not mentioned in my mother’s house!

It is sooooooooo hilarious! Good spirit, Elly! I think she has to re-wash the bra and panty in the washer again!

Elly, this will teach you to put the laundry away immediately, won’t it.

My friend always told me to take a picture when my kids did things like this, because by the time you got the camera you would be able to laugh about it.
SillyStuff said, 2 months ago
Elly have a good laugh at the dog, with the boys, throw the undies back in the wash, and make the kids refold the laundry. They will laugh forever and think about doing the same thing twice.

I can see Farley’s tail wagging.

my sisters and I used to dress the cats up in our doll clothes. I can still see the look on my dad’s face when he brought home a client and here comes the cat bounding down the stairs in a dress, bonnet AND lipstick!
great memories!

Silly Stuff, exactly what you said! Laugh with the kids, then make them clean up their mess! Not scream at them, laugh when they’re gone, then clean up their mess. No wonder Elly became old before her time…

Part of the initial reaction has to be to Farley about to rip the panties off. And yes, their is attempted tail wagging….
Nelly55: You got lipstick on the cat! Wish you had a picture to share!

This is so funny I am ROFL!

I had the same experience with my dog when I was little. The only difference is my sister and I stuffed the dog into a doll dress, complete with bonnet and booties. Our dog had the same “why do I deserve this indiginty” look that Farley has in panels 6 and 7. The things we do to our pets in the name of fun ;-)

I’m with Farley in the central panel on this one. Couldn’t resist, could you, Elly?

In one of David Eddings’ “Sparhawk” books, the Princess Danae (who is also the Child Goddess Aphrael - it’s complicated) dresses her kitten in doll clothes.
Mmrr, the kitten, stands there with her tail lashing dsgustedly.
Danae says “I’m sure I could find a bow for your tail.”
Mmrr considers, stops lashing her tail…

I got home last night and my daughter was sorting clothes and put undies on the cat. I had to show her this comic and have a good laugh!
