Since its debut in 1979, For Better or For Worse has touched comic strip readers as few cartoons ever do. Cartoonist Lynn Johnston’s eye for detail and her uncanny sense of what real parents and children struggle with daily are a big part of her success. The world has watched the Patterson family grow up in real time, and to many readers, the Pattersons feel like family!
Parents and children alike will relate to the obstacles that the Patterson family faces. Curfews, parent date nights, babysitting, pets and distractions are all hurdles that the Pattersons must overcome in order to enjoy each other as a family. They face the same obstacles that real life families do, which is what makes them so loveable.

Ah yes, the best cause of all….freedom. Just be careful what you wish for, you may just get it.

That’s the most genuinely happy face I’ve seen Elly sport for a long time!! You go girl…. and enjoy it while it lasts. Alas, a week goes by all too quickly. sigh

Elly’s going from one ‘job’ to another. From one ‘boss’ (the kids) to another (John). But having been both a stay at home Mom and a working Mom, at least the job out of the house has breaks, lunches, paid sick days, vacations, etc.

Its the change Elly needs. After a week of working she may well be very happy back at home; and if she isn’t then she will know it *is* time to go look for work!

I don’t think this is gonna go too well. She will have to take orders from John and it may cause a lot of grief both at the office and at home.

Some wish for freedom, and when granted it, find it very sad - due the circumstance.

Elly and John will look each other for 24/7. Good luck! :-)

A reliable baby-sitter is to a mother what a friday is to a 9-to-5 full-time worker, sort of but what a nice sense of elation on her face!

For once, Elly isn’t being eaten up by guilt and is honest with herself.
Working with John may be no picnic, but at least she’ll be out of the house and among adult company.
That’s what “freedom” means to her.

For those of you wanting to tell the difference between new material and reprint, today’s strip has several good examples of the new material art style:
If you see these kinds of things, the material is new and not a reprint.

Freedom gets lonely, but hey, that’s your tradeoff.

Of course, the first patient Elly will have to deal with will be a Screaming child

howtheduck - about #3. I see what you mean however, it could be the stairs leading to the family basement which would then make sense. But your probably right in that it is a mistake.
