Since its debut in 1979, For Better or For Worse has touched comic strip readers as few cartoons ever do. Cartoonist Lynn Johnston’s eye for detail and her uncanny sense of what real parents and children struggle with daily are a big part of her success. The world has watched the Patterson family grow up in real time, and to many readers, the Pattersons feel like family!
Parents and children alike will relate to the obstacles that the Patterson family faces. Curfews, parent date nights, babysitting, pets and distractions are all hurdles that the Pattersons must overcome in order to enjoy each other as a family. They face the same obstacles that real life families do, which is what makes them so loveable.

In her early years before she found her own consistent voice, Lynn Johnston would often do comic strips in imitation of other popular strips of that time. Con-man kid strips have been popular since the Katzenjammer kids, although this one is a little more like Dennis the Menace in its tone.

I don’t know that Elly should’ve been so flattered with that pic!

There’s no con going on here. Both parties freely gave and freely received; no deception was even suggested. So…
An Entrepreneur: The Early Years.

nice way to get more cookie for your picture, mike ;-) it’s the picture that counts, not the cookie. cookies are bonus

LOL Ji2m I read Susan’s comment, totally knew what she meant. I didn’t twig to the mistake until you mentioned it.

Shouldnt he have finished eating the cookie, and wiped the crumbs away, before showing it to dad?

naaah! Dad wouldn’t notice.
mroberts88 said, 2 months ago
Either way, yyyguy, its a good way to get cookies if it works.
Burgundy2 said, 2 months ago
mroberts I was thinking the same thing myself - remove all evidence of the cookie before approaching dad.
But I guess I think like a scum…

Elly: John! What’re you doing giving Michael a cookie?
John: Elly, he showed me his picture and said it was for me. So I’m rewa…
Elly: Michael gave it to me. So I gave him a cookie.
[John and Elly Look at each other, then at Michael with stern faces]
Michael: Uh… Heh-heh. Hey, I think I heard the doorbell ring. Maybe it’s Lawrence wanting to play. See ya!

never mistake intelligence for scrouples,
nor wisdom for ethics,
which kinda makes you wonder what might be so good about wisdom??
maybe l’m thinking western wisdom
as opposed to eastern wisdom
Burgundy2 said, 2 months ago
mroberts sorry, I hope that didn’t come out wrong. I was refecting something that schmoozeminky said, and I think he’s out of sorts today.
Burgundy2 said, 2 months ago
rrichhterr there is so far no proof that intelligence has any survival value.
mroberts88 said, 2 months ago
Burgundy, no, it didnt come out wrong, I was aware of that statement.
How does intelligence not have any survival value?
Burgundy2 said, 2 months ago
look at how long dinosaurs roamed th planet.. Humans have been here for a very small fraction of the time.. We have not proven ourselves yet.
Burgundy2 said, 2 months ago
oh. and I did not say intelligence had no survival value, just that it was not proven.
mroberts88 said, 2 months ago
Ok Burgundy, I dont know what dinosaurs have to do with any of that, and how can intelligence having or not having survival value be proven?
BlitzMcD said, 2 months ago
It’s not just Michael. Dogs are adept at the same thing. Just bring out some food and watch Fido give you “the look”!
