Since its debut in 1979, For Better or For Worse has touched comic strip readers as few cartoons ever do. Cartoonist Lynn Johnston’s eye for detail and her uncanny sense of what real parents and children struggle with daily are a big part of her success. The world has watched the Patterson family grow up in real time, and to many readers, the Pattersons feel like family!
Parents and children alike will relate to the obstacles that the Patterson family faces. Curfews, parent date nights, babysitting, pets and distractions are all hurdles that the Pattersons must overcome in order to enjoy each other as a family. They face the same obstacles that real life families do, which is what makes them so loveable.

My 18-month-old’s first sentence: “not in the mouth.”

Ol’ Dads neglected to mention that Lizzie was actually happy right up until Michael went and dug his verbal boot in!!!
Then again, to be fair on John, he might have just decided that there was no need for Michael to go through the whole go to your room caper all over again if he told Elly what Michael had said to Lizzie! Maybe a smart move after all…

Oh dear. You can’t assume anything Elly. Now you have to show her what to do with them.

Yes, she wants school supplies. But she never said what she wanted them for. ;)

Let’s see - Lizzie shrieks annoyingly and eats crayons. Yet it is Michael who is punished??

Mom needs to teach Lizzie what to do with the school supplies. Lizzie could start learning or be an artist. Mom and daughter time.

Oh, the new age diet come upon Elly …. LOL!

Can’t understand why Elly is so shocked. Doesn’t she know that kids that age ALWAYS put stuff in their mouths?

Elly looks like “YIKES!” But the best thing to do is telling Lizzie gently, ” No, do not eat those crayons, just color on the coloring book.” Elly should teach her how to do the coloring book helpfully. Give Lizzie time to learn how to do on the coloring book.

At least Lizzie hasn’t colored on the walls…yet.

That was our century; kids today will grow up never knowing the pleasure….

Elly gives sharpened pencils to her 1-year-old and then leaves her unsupervised?!! What was she thinking?

@ summerdog The writing on the wall comes later. LOL
Give her crayons Ellie. They are non-toxic- for a good reason. And they are easier on the teeth and gums.
snakemama said, 2 months ago
Creativity is sooo tasty! Liz looks so meditative in that last panel eating her pencils.
doublepaw said, 2 months ago
Tigger——-no lead in pencils for decades- graphite…….maybe you can get graphite poisoning?
AndiJ said, 2 months ago
She’s too young for pencils, should have given her crayons and then showed her how to use them.
summerdog said, 2 months ago
Anyone notice that SHRIEK! is spelled wrong?
Of course Lizzie is too young to know how to spell it.
