Since its debut in 1979, For Better or For Worse has touched comic strip readers as few cartoons ever do. Cartoonist Lynn Johnston’s eye for detail and her uncanny sense of what real parents and children struggle with daily are a big part of her success. The world has watched the Patterson family grow up in real time, and to many readers, the Pattersons feel like family!
Parents and children alike will relate to the obstacles that the Patterson family faces. Curfews, parent date nights, babysitting, pets and distractions are all hurdles that the Pattersons must overcome in order to enjoy each other as a family. They face the same obstacles that real life families do, which is what makes them so loveable.

When did Elly last check the fridge?!? She could well be salivating over nothing if Michael got there first! XD

Did I call it, or did I CALL it?!!! Now it’s just a case of whether it was John, Michael or Lizzy. Then again, perhaps Farley has learned how to hook a paw around the fridge door! :-)

Who’s the slob who left the empty plate in the fridge? At least they could have washed it and put it away, thus concealing the crime!

That’s so true algurka. That irks me worse than anything when my husband takes something that was mine and then leaves the dirty dish for me to wash!
John is probably not home and for her to go to the store or Tim Horton’s to buy more donuts she’d have to pack up the kids. Next time she should grab a few for herself and put them in a safe place.

The donut was not only IN the fridge, but UNWRAPPED and sitting on a plate. Who would do that to an innocent donut? Must have been a cold, hard as a rock one by then, Elly. You didn’t miss much.

in 1980’s Tim Horton’s was a SMALL donut shop. They closed, if memory serves, around 8 or 9pm in Urban areas, and 6 in Suburban/Country areas.
It wasn’t till around 2000, that they started opening 24hrs
And DEATH TO THE ONE WHO ATE ELLY’S DOUGHNUT!

In this comic strip, the chief villain is John Patterson. Watch for him to be the evil donut eater in this saga of Elly Patterson’s eating disorder.

Whoever ate the donut did Elly a favor.
It’s much easier to resist temptation when there is none.

Actually, in the 1980s, Tim Horton’s was anything but a small donut shop. It was growing fast, and they were everywhere. I remember working road crews at that time in Ontario, and the crews were always wanting their Tim’ys then too.

As I’m finding out, there is just no good place to hide food from teenaged sons. If I buy a box of vanilla wafers or Ritz crackers, they could last me a few weeks - I think. I’ve never found out for sure, because my sons always find my hiding places.

A DONUT! Snort! Who the heck eats the donut on the plate? Could be John, the one who eats a donut before Elly?

i live alone, and stuff like that doesn’t last. if it’s in the house, i get cravings for it and it gets eaten, so i try not to buy it. whether “it” is donuts, chips, cookies, chocolate bars, or whatever. i just wish i was more successful at it.

Oh my God, I’m going through the same thing right now. My sister brought me over a Big Mac she know I love them. I have not had one it 5 years or more. She just popped in for a minute and brought the dang thing. It is going to be my dinner tonight. So far I have resisted, but it is only 2:15pm southern time. Oh please help me be strong until 5:00pm or Lord…..I beg you.

Yes Tim Horton was some Canadian hockey player and I have no idea what kind of career he had but he will always be remembered for his restaurants. Bless him for starting them up, where you can always get a good cup of coffee and delicious snackie.
