Since its debut in 1979, For Better or For Worse has touched comic strip readers as few cartoons ever do. Cartoonist Lynn Johnston’s eye for detail and her uncanny sense of what real parents and children struggle with daily are a big part of her success. The world has watched the Patterson family grow up in real time, and to many readers, the Pattersons feel like family!
Parents and children alike will relate to the obstacles that the Patterson family faces. Curfews, parent date nights, babysitting, pets and distractions are all hurdles that the Pattersons must overcome in order to enjoy each other as a family. They face the same obstacles that real life families do, which is what makes them so loveable.

Lizzie is at that age where she doesn’t want to share. Ah! the terrible two’s.

I shared at that age if somebody asked, but they never did.

My cousins discovered the beauty of avoiding younger siblings when the terrible twos hit.

Now that she’s dropped it, grab it Michael, and stop asking her questions!! If you have to ask a toddler a question, make sure they only get 2 choices for an answer and “No”can’t be one of them.
I love the look on her face in panel 4. The same look has been directed at me so many times, it’s funny to see someone else get it…

Lizzy’s being such a brat! Michael asked politely which is a lot more than many big brothers do. Mine just grabbed what they wanted and never asked.

Oh, what a un-fun day for Michael. Asks mother to play in the sprlinker, asks baby sister to be in the sandbox and to have her shovel. All of which he recieves a negative answer. Is the lad EVER going to do what he asks to do what he wants to do?

This brings back (really old) memories. I can remember being just such a squealer when my brother tried to take something from me. Got him in trouble every time, too. yep, I was a brat.

Ahhh, the main reason I didn’t want children … at least this age. I married into an instant family … kids already in college. Now that is way to do it….. LOL!

Lawrence is wise enough to stay well out of the way on this one! Way to think ahead kid ;-)

I’ve got two, taken years off my life, but wouldn’t trade them for anything. You don’t know what kids mean to you until you have them
