   In elementary school I hated leaving my old classes behind. I always thought they were the best until I saw my new classes.

   I went to Catholic school from grade one thru eight. I said to myself when I am 18 I am done with this religion. And I was, I never looked back. I hated it with a passion. I don’t want to step on anyone’s toes with this statement. It is my feelings and my feelings only.

   I miss kindergarten, I had a lot of friends in kindergarten. Then I went to grade school, which was in another disctrict completely. I would not have fond memories of school again till college…T.T

   Nothing against the religion, but I happen to agree with you. Thankfully I lived in a rural area where my mom couldn’t send me to Catholic school (she wanted to) and I found a loophole within the religion that actually allowed me to leave at 14. Like you, it’s a decision I have never regretted.

   kindergarten was good for me, i had a big problem with 2nd grade though, that mean teacher tried to force me and another kid to write in our right hand by tying our left ones to the seat…
   i just didn’t do any work.[ this was in the mid 50’s]

    bald - i have scars on my left hand (i claim) from where the teacher whacked me with a ruler if i didn’t use my right hand!

    btw - i’m a teacher and about 20 years ago i had parents come from south australia (i’m in victoria) saying, “we are sorry our daughter is left handed, they’ve tried to change her but nothing works”!!!! i went and got the handwriting manual and showed the chapter on teaching a right hander and the one for teaching a left hander - they were stunned. (so was i - it was a real .. “in this day and age??” moment for me)

    i’m a lefty but, thankfully, no one ever tried to change me.
    i changed classes in grade 2 when teacher had a baby, and within a month, was two weeks behind the class because i had to recopy my work over and over until it was neat enough for the new teacher - and it never seemed to be that. good thing my parents intervened.

    I apparently was a left hander but that was not allowed in good Catholic families. In school there were no exceptions everyone wrote with their right hand. PERIOD.

    It was later in college that I discovered how left handed I was. To this day I write neater with my right but can write quite well with my left hand. There are some things I only do left handed like ironing.

    For years my son wrote with his left hand to the middle of the page then switched to his right hand. Then switched back to start the next line. It was the funniest thing to watch. I just let him do it until he settled on writing with his right. He batted, pitched and threw left handed.
