Since its debut in 1979, For Better or For Worse has touched comic strip readers as few cartoons ever do. Cartoonist Lynn Johnston’s eye for detail and her uncanny sense of what real parents and children struggle with daily are a big part of her success. The world has watched the Patterson family grow up in real time, and to many readers, the Pattersons feel like family!
Parents and children alike will relate to the obstacles that the Patterson family faces. Curfews, parent date nights, babysitting, pets and distractions are all hurdles that the Pattersons must overcome in order to enjoy each other as a family. They face the same obstacles that real life families do, which is what makes them so loveable.

It’s not like he’s actually going to do all that. She’s probably been asking him to sharpen those knives & mend those steps every weekend for the past year.
If she’s lucky, he’ll pick up the groceries & barbecue the steak.

Oh well she probably had to do a lot for them on mother’s day so they’re even.

Sounds like a good day to me; I like going to the store and running errands. And what would he do if he’s “putting around in his workshop” that would preclude him fixing the stairs? Sounds like a fun project to me.

thestargazer1682, that’s what I was thinking, too. I love to fix things and run errands.

See, he needs to say “and then WE’LL take a bath…”
That’s all I want on my day, or any day for that matter ;-)

LOLs! It is so funny! Elly kept telling John all of things to do. John should need to be rest for Father’s Day!
Summerdog and Pearlandpeach, OF COURSE, the hardware stores such as Home Depot and Lowes are open on Sunday! I know the dry cleaners are closed on Sunday.

Nearest Lowes and Home Depot are an hour away from me, but, yeah, they are open, aren’t they! I forget!

Hey, Pops; there’s a reason it’s on Sunday. Anything else cross your mind?

Father’s Day is on Sunday because that’s where the government designated it. It did not become official until signed into law in 1972. BTW on Mother’s Day, John was going to take the kids out all day so Elly could do what ever she wanted all day and she asked to go along with them.

We’ve got an Ace Hardware in town that’s opened on Sundays. They’re open surprisingly late too, until like 4:00; which pretty late compared to some of the stores that close so much earlier.
I’ve never understood the point in some stores opening for only a couple of hours; and at the start of the day no less, when so many people are in church!
