Since its debut in 1979, For Better or For Worse has touched comic strip readers as few cartoons ever do. Cartoonist Lynn Johnston’s eye for detail and her uncanny sense of what real parents and children struggle with daily are a big part of her success. The world has watched the Patterson family grow up in real time, and to many readers, the Pattersons feel like family!
Parents and children alike will relate to the obstacles that the Patterson family faces. Curfews, parent date nights, babysitting, pets and distractions are all hurdles that the Pattersons must overcome in order to enjoy each other as a family. They face the same obstacles that real life families do, which is what makes them so loveable.

Obedience training is for the human, the dog just learns to walk on a leash.

That helps Jon Elly, now what about Farley?
howtheduck said, 5 months ago
This is Elly’s humorous way of letting John know just what she thinks about this dog show style of obedience school training. John doesn’t seem to be taking it very well, judging from the expression on his face and Farley’s detached head in his hands.

So thats why she’s been doing that to me.

Everyone knows that dog training isn’t about training the dog; its about training the human to handle the dog correctly.

There is an old movie, IF A MAN ANSWERS, 1962, with Sandra Dee and Bobby Darin with just this theme. Sandra Dee’s mother teaches her how to get her husband to behave likes she thinks a husband should behave. She gives Sandra a dog training book. It works! Till both husbands find out about it, anyways. Funny stuff.

John probably would enjoy the praise more if Elly didn’t pat him on his head.

Sigh… does he ever stop griping? He’s also a misogynist. But he’d have to look that word up in the dictionary since he probably doesn’t know it.
