Since its debut in 1979, For Better or For Worse has touched comic strip readers as few cartoons ever do. Cartoonist Lynn Johnston’s eye for detail and her uncanny sense of what real parents and children struggle with daily are a big part of her success. The world has watched the Patterson family grow up in real time, and to many readers, the Pattersons feel like family!
Parents and children alike will relate to the obstacles that the Patterson family faces. Curfews, parent date nights, babysitting, pets and distractions are all hurdles that the Pattersons must overcome in order to enjoy each other as a family. They face the same obstacles that real life families do, which is what makes them so loveable.

No reason why a married woman can’t dress up - though it’s better to do it when your husband’s around to appreciate. ;)

Time to search for new friends who won’t try to lead you astray.

and now I would think about why Connie USED to be married and isn’t now. May not be the best person for advice in this arena.

They could go out to dinner just the two of them but not to someplace where she’d have to dress sexy and flirt with other men. Nothing wrong with leaving the kids with a sitter for a few hours.

As Tom T. Hall famously sang: “On love and marriage I want to say one thing - oh lady if you’re married wear that ring!”

John faced the temptation and proved worthy of trust.
Elly Knows better, too.

Her idea was great until she suggested something flirty and sexy.

Why not get dressed up like you’re playing a roll? Just make sure the other players know the limits to your game.
Connie isn’t necessarily the one that caused her marriage to fail. The other partner may have had different expectations about the quality of the relationship.

Given the closeness the strip followed Lynn’s own life, this strip may be a “might have” given her subsequent divorce.

Supposedly, if Elly will wear something sexy and flirty, she will be an adultery. That will make her embarrassable and humilatiing.

You Go Girl!!! Remember a few weeks ago, it was okay for John ot go out! What’s good for the goose is good for the gander! ANd like Connie said, you don’t have to keep the fish!!

Perhaps it would be best if Elly did not go trolling for trouser trout. This episode is not comparable to Jons night out, as he had no intention of flirting or encouraging come-ons. She increases her danger by the possibility of being seen and having gossip spread around. If she pursues Connies’ suggestion, then she will have no defense against the gossip as she willingly participated.

Oh, for goodness sakes. Elly, there’s nothing wrong with dressing nice for yourself. Feel pretty, Elly. You don’t have to flirt with anyone. And remember, there’s a big difference between dressing pretty and dressing skanky.
OPCgnat said, 6 months ago
Amen, AliKzam…I can’t believe what a big deal some people are making of this. Adultery, seriously? Sometimes a woman, especially a married woman with children who rarely gets seen as anything more than Mom, just needs to dress up, go out, and feel good about herself. There is nothing wrong with that, and it doesn’t violate any marriage vows.

Wasn’t John in this same boat with his single, Dr. friend trying to lead him astray, not that long ago?

The hook goes both ways. Try reading “Love and Limerance”. It is very easy to get trapped in an obsession.

Did we really get this story line the first time around?
Connie could write a book: “Why I am such a loser.”
I don’t think this comic could have gotten this popular if it had been this whiny and boring the first time around.

Married not buried. There’s nothing wrong with going out with the girl(s), dressed to the nines to have a terrific time! I’ve done this before and I had a terrific time. On a few occasions I had men show interest but I simply and kindly put them to rights. I’ve been married for 15 years and my few nights out without my husband didn’t cause any harm and neither have his nights out with his friends.
Connie isn’t suggesting Elly go trawling for guys…just encouraging her to have a good time.
bluetopazcrystal said, 6 months ago
matmunk is right. It is good to go out with the girls! Stop being so prudish and accusatory, I sometimes go out with my gal pals, dressed to the 9’s and my husband is ok with it. No cheating involved or even thought of. Sheesh.

MaxStarmanJones, well it’s mainly the readers commentary that’s boring and whiny, here…
