Since its debut in 1979, For Better or For Worse has touched comic strip readers as few cartoons ever do. Cartoonist Lynn Johnston’s eye for detail and her uncanny sense of what real parents and children struggle with daily are a big part of her success. The world has watched the Patterson family grow up in real time, and to many readers, the Pattersons feel like family!
Parents and children alike will relate to the obstacles that the Patterson family faces. Curfews, parent date nights, babysitting, pets and distractions are all hurdles that the Pattersons must overcome in order to enjoy each other as a family. They face the same obstacles that real life families do, which is what makes them so loveable.

She should’ve showed him where everything was.

Why does he need the spaghetti anyway? She made and froze all the meals.
Lizzie is too big for a bottle now. Bad for her teeth. And he’s a dentist!

I’m sure there are written instructions somewhere. We Moms know there will be problems.

She probably made spaghetti sauce and figured John could handle boiling the pasta. Or John could be like my father in law and feel that boiling pasta is too much work, so have the spaghetti sauce on toast.
Doctortoon - I love your new avatar!

Doc, can that cat run out to the grocery store if you run low on cat food? Cute kitty.

I did child care for small kids working my way thru college (decades ago!). Even if the parenting chores in a home were declared to be equally shared, not one of the dads ever knew all the particulars of their childrens’ diet, friends, wardrobe, doctor/immunization status, school/teacher issues, like the mom did. Not one. And this was in a big, urban, progressive city. (of course, my experience was anecdotal evidence only….)

Awww, John feels so helplessness and doesn’t know what to do. Elly should write down the notes to do for him while she was gone for her visit. Tch!
Doctortoon, your comment is so hilarious! LOLs!
