Since its debut in 1979, For Better or For Worse has touched comic strip readers as few cartoons ever do. Cartoonist Lynn Johnston’s eye for detail and her uncanny sense of what real parents and children struggle with daily are a big part of her success. The world has watched the Patterson family grow up in real time, and to many readers, the Pattersons feel like family!
Parents and children alike will relate to the obstacles that the Patterson family faces. Curfews, parent date nights, babysitting, pets and distractions are all hurdles that the Pattersons must overcome in order to enjoy each other as a family. They face the same obstacles that real life families do, which is what makes them so loveable.

Your not going to get lucky, and if in some miracle you did, where would you take her, home to mommy.

Notice the ‘halo’ over his head? Clever.

What’s Ted going to do when his mom kicks the bucket?
prasrinivara said, 8 months ago
Marriage isn’t about romance, Ted but about compatibility.
prasrinivara said, 8 months ago
Sure, he’s contented now Gweedo–but as carmy inferred, his applecart’s gonna be grossly upset when his mum passes on.

SchmoozeMinkey, I thought the same thing initially, but if you look, it’s not really a halo. It’s just the light in the ceiling.

This dope ought not to get married if he’s thinking a wife is only there to perform household tasks. And he left out the most pleasant part of marriage, the lovemaking! But to think a wife is only to do things for him is selfish and immature. Let him stay home with mommy. I hope they move onto another thread soon.

Don’t think Mom is not getting a big ‘bennie’ from this arraignment…think about it!!

Guys like this one forget that when they are young and good looking is the best time to find a mate. By the time they are getting old and ready to settle down, the pickings are rather slim. And if they don’t have children, who’ll take care of them when they’re really old?

Supposedly, if Ted’s mother dies, will he know how to sew with the needle and thread to put the button on his shirt? Obviously, he doesn’t know how to sew anything because he is stupid.

Maybe the light in the ceiling symbolizes a halo. Or maybe we are looking too deeply into it?!

Carol1966…I saw that too, I liked the symbology even if it was just a coincidence.

I think Ted’s mother was still alive and kicking at the end of the strip, wasn’t she? That’s 30 years in the future from here.
