Since its debut in 1979, For Better or For Worse has touched comic strip readers as few cartoons ever do. Cartoonist Lynn Johnston’s eye for detail and her uncanny sense of what real parents and children struggle with daily are a big part of her success. The world has watched the Patterson family grow up in real time, and to many readers, the Pattersons feel like family!
Parents and children alike will relate to the obstacles that the Patterson family faces. Curfews, parent date nights, babysitting, pets and distractions are all hurdles that the Pattersons must overcome in order to enjoy each other as a family. They face the same obstacles that real life families do, which is what makes them so loveable.

She’s daddy’s girl, she’s daddy’s girl…she’s mommy’s girl, she’s mommy’s girl.

Isn’t that sort of like when the teenager gets into trouble and dad comes home from work and mom says, “Do you know what YOUR child did today?!” The wheel keeps on turning my friend! Karma! Change the diaper now! lol

Dad is basically saying: “I’ll love you as long as your pretty and smell good.” Years of therapy ahead.

John, what you’re doing is ok if the child is “borrowed”–but Liz is your own, so you’d better check-in to doghouse now!

At least he smelt her…my hubby tells me to smell because “he can’t tell”.=/

Kaytebb, Since my kids have been young it’s been that way. It’s always OUR children that got straight A’s on their report card but it’s my child that pounded nails into the coffee table. My mom tells me I’m getting everything I so richly deserve from my kids :)

As a 26+ year “marriage veteran”, the rule of thumb is: YOU notice the diaper needs changing, YOU change it!
Our son would let us know when he needed a change… “Ah Poo!”
Ash said, 8 months ago
Let mommy do it because the diaper will be on too loosely if Daddy does it thereby making mommy have to change clothes and sheets next time.

Ah yes, the rule at our house was…”He (or she) who findee, changee. :) Worked well for all three kids, and now it works for the grandkids.

Old John seems to be spending this week trying to earn a permanent bed on the couch.

Now that’s much better than a father who doesn’t notice the kids until they are completely potty trained.

I know men who do this and it burns me up. He’s her parent as much as mom is and that goes for the negative aspects as well as the positive. Change the diapar John!

While John holds Lizzie on his right knee, he shakes Lizzie up and down and then, lifts her up. All of sudden, ppffffttttt! He immediately smells and knows she needs to change her diaper. EWWW! Smell stink! He expects his wife, Elly to change Lizzie the diaper instead of him! Sheesshhh!

Actually cleokaya–he’s prepping the foundation of his later model-railway hobby by setting up a workshop; he’d better build a cot there first, because he’s now past the couch stage straight to workshop.

If Ellie was smart, she’d not be reaching for Lizzie. She’d be passing John the clean diaper.

Daddy wants his little girl smelling nice. Some guys just can’t do the stinky diaper thing. I think males are more sensitive than women. And they call US the weaker sex.

At my house it was me that had to deal with the Nuclear Waste, and we used cloth diapers. “HAZMAT CLEANUP ON ISLE 3!”
