Since its debut in 1979, For Better or For Worse has touched comic strip readers as few cartoons ever do. Cartoonist Lynn Johnston’s eye for detail and her uncanny sense of what real parents and children struggle with daily are a big part of her success. The world has watched the Patterson family grow up in real time, and to many readers, the Pattersons feel like family!
Parents and children alike will relate to the obstacles that the Patterson family faces. Curfews, parent date nights, babysitting, pets and distractions are all hurdles that the Pattersons must overcome in order to enjoy each other as a family. They face the same obstacles that real life families do, which is what makes them so loveable.

When I was a kid I NEVER told my mom I was bored. She always came up with something to do and it was always housework. Better to be bored silly.

My mom: Your bored? Go clean your bleeep room!
Me: That’s more boring.
Mom: Then get out of my hair.

Every day, I thank God I never had kids. Who knows? I may have become like Elly!

ROFL I also learned by this age never to tell Mom or Dad that I was bored. But they could tell. They could tell…
(disclaimer: I’m passing that work ethic off to my own kids now!)

“hasn’t had nothing” I think someone needs to study grammer. Michael needs to read too.

Life before video games and the internet, likely only had 2 or 3 TV stations that didn’t come in clear. Yep life was tuff back then.

“nothing to do” is being used as a replacement for “free time”.

The grammAr is fine – it’s the correct use of a double negative. “Hasn’t had nothing” = “Has had something!” Elly has always had “something” to do since she had kids.
And isn’t he only 4 in this timeline? He may not be able to read yet (he could look at picture books though.)

The double negative is correct! Having nothing to do is a state of being she has not experienced since she had him.
She has always had something to do, ergo she has not had nothing to do.
