Since its debut in 1979, For Better or For Worse has touched comic strip readers as few cartoons ever do. Cartoonist Lynn Johnston’s eye for detail and her uncanny sense of what real parents and children struggle with daily are a big part of her success. The world has watched the Patterson family grow up in real time, and to many readers, the Pattersons feel like family!
Parents and children alike will relate to the obstacles that the Patterson family faces. Curfews, parent date nights, babysitting, pets and distractions are all hurdles that the Pattersons must overcome in order to enjoy each other as a family. They face the same obstacles that real life families do, which is what makes them so loveable.

I think all the women here are on the right path. My first thought was, just wait until he grows up. It won’t be any different.
“Honey, I can’t find my keys!”
“Honey, I can’t find the remote!”
ect, ect…

Poor Elly! I thought she supposed to be her duty to turn the faucet off while Michael was in the bathtub. Maybe she should be aware not to let him to turn the “hot” faucet on all the way and burn him up. Oh well! lols!

What kind of mother would leave a small child alone in a bathtub, where he could easily fall and drown or crack his head?

Three months into the strip’s new incarnation, I must say I don’t miss looking at turkey necks

Michael isn’t a “small child” if he’s capable of doing what Elly describes in the last panel. But even my 19 year old son will pretend he’s helpless at something, so someone else will do it for him. Of course, I think he learned that trick from his dad!
