Grow a pair John, she’ll get used to the cute little pup, my mother did. Took a while though. She wasn’t a dog person at all. Loved that pup!

My mom was a sucker. We ended up with a dog & four cats that way.

I’ve learned that both animals pay you back many times over for your kindness.

I remember seeing this many years ago. I loved it then and I love it now……Reminds me of me when I was a kid.

So that’s Farley’s debut? He’s adorable. But it makes the memory of his ultimate fate all the sadder.

I missed this the first time around. Lizard breath was lots older. Glad to know how it was.

Just remember, Susan, all dogs go to heaven. A good dog is a gift that comes to you right when you need it.

I didn’t have the chance to read the very early FBOW, so this is a rich delight to see how Farley joined the family!

Yes, nugget, all dogs–indeed, all animals–go to heaven. In fact, Farley plays fetch there with the grandfather in “Family Circus”. Still, I remember his passing, and it was so sad.

Now I’m all onboard with the whole start-at-the-beginning thing. I never saw Farley’s origins before.

It would be so hard to pick just one. But it looks like Michael’s found his dog. How did they decide to name him Farley? I hope they explain that and don’t just tell us that’s his name.

Awww, those puppies are so darling! Gladly, Michael held and cuddled the cute pup. I laughed what John made the comment. LOLs!
Susan and Nugget, OF COURSE! all of the animals go to heaven! My precious cat was already in heaven. I cherished to treasure good things about my beloved cat eternally.

I am SO enjoying reliving “the old days” of FBoFW! I love Lynn’s 1st 10 collections books; I know all the old strips by heart. It is fun to see the new “old” ones, and recognize the “updated” ones.

Why is everyone so hung up on Farley’s death. Everything dies. When you look at a just born baby do you think of when they will die? No, you think of the now and the wonderful future. Welcome Farley we will enjoy your life.

Wise husband and it’s a good thought, but, he knows his wife and how she’ll melt when she see the pup…

Wasn’t Farley originally the runt and no one else wanted him? or is that just how Mrs. Baird played up to Elly’s emotions and melted the ice queen, lol!

John’s still recovering from the hygenist incident LOL.

Everyone’s so emotional because this is an emotional strip that attracts emotional people. And they remember that Farley ultimately gave his life saving the little sister.

Sgle, we are “hung up” on Farley’s death because we saw it happen and we saw how it happened. It’s something we cannot forget, no matter how much we enjoy him as a cute puppy.

There’s a book called “Remembering Farley” that collect all the strips in which that dog appears. I seem to remember reading (can’t find a cite) that Johnston came up with the name in tribute to Farley Mowat, a Canadian author whose works often draw on his background as a naturalist and conservationist.

OMG, there is going to be a stuffed Farley to buy! There is a picture of it with Lynn, at the fborfw site right now! And there’s a Farley 2009 calendar, too.

Oh, Farley is just the cutest little puppy ever!!! It is bittersweet that we know he eventually passes on, but knowing that he died a heroic death makes his story special. We know he gets a lot of love from this family, and I think some of the good strips will come with Farley winnig Elly over.
