Since its debut in 1979, For Better or For Worse has touched comic strip readers as few cartoons ever do. Cartoonist Lynn Johnston’s eye for detail and her uncanny sense of what real parents and children struggle with daily are a big part of her success. The world has watched the Patterson family grow up in real time, and to many readers, the Pattersons feel like family!
Parents and children alike will relate to the obstacles that the Patterson family faces. Curfews, parent date nights, babysitting, pets and distractions are all hurdles that the Pattersons must overcome in order to enjoy each other as a family. They face the same obstacles that real life families do, which is what makes them so loveable.

I must admit it’s getting harder and harder for me to enjoy reading this strip. I loved the older version so much because it paralled so many events of my own life. I always wanted to know what going to happen next. The strip, as it is now, is quickly getting stale and I find myself no longer looking forward to the next day’s strip. Please bring back the old strip.

Please keep doing the strip the way you are. I’m a fairly new reader of the strip and I enjoy getting the background with the new twists.

I don’t mind these new/old strips, but I can understand that you miss the “soap opera” type story.

Little white lies keep feeling from being hurt. She will fit into them all too soon.

It’s hard seeing Elly talk to “Mom”, knowing that in the course of this strip Mom will pass away and Dad will marry Iris.

I feel like we are going back to 1970’s, huh? Dance in disco music or whatever we do in 1970’s. :-)

I hope to see the first time Micheal calls his sister “Lizard Breath”

WildMustang1262:
We were in the 70s right up until John mentioned Shania Twain a couple of weeks back. Now I’m just confused. Is it the 70s? Is it present day? Or are we just floating through time? I would actually prefer it to take place when it originally took place. I don’t find anything wrong with that, in fact I think it’s charming.

Go to fborfw.com, and click on the “spill your beans” coffee talk banner. Lynn addresses the time of these new/old strips. She just put it up today. You will find your answers there, AliKzam.

Auugh. I keep saying Micheal and Elizabeth need to be a year older before Farley comes into the picture. Micheal is in 1rst grade then now he’s in kindergarten.

I don’t want to wait a whole year, Wolfdreamer!

I enjoy reading this strip as well as the one other I have time to follow. I do not enjoy reading the inane comments of a bunch of people with too much time on their hands. Please get rid of comments, Gocomics!
