Since its debut in 1979, For Better or For Worse has touched comic strip readers as few cartoons ever do. Cartoonist Lynn Johnston’s eye for detail and her uncanny sense of what real parents and children struggle with daily are a big part of her success. The world has watched the Patterson family grow up in real time, and to many readers, the Pattersons feel like family!
Parents and children alike will relate to the obstacles that the Patterson family faces. Curfews, parent date nights, babysitting, pets and distractions are all hurdles that the Pattersons must overcome in order to enjoy each other as a family. They face the same obstacles that real life families do, which is what makes them so loveable.

Sheesh! John should not bawl his son, Mike for that mess of leaves for a little silly thing. He should have laugh and perhaps he plays with his son in the pile of leaves for fun, eh!

September, October, song running around in my head. The days dwindle down to a precious few . .

Another old one. Sigh. Will she ever make new comics again.

If the biggest problem with your child is the fact that they won’t stay out of the leaf piles, you are doing a pretty good job as a parent!!

Yes, another really “pure” and un-touched up old Sunday strip. You can tell which ones Lynn has redrawn by looking closely at the style. This one is touching, isn’t it? Very nice warm and fuzzy feel to it. Like it.

We used to burn them in evenings and roast marshmallows. Geez now-a- days that’s not allowed, either there’s burn-ban or you get cited for air pollution. Sighh…You just can’t have too much fun anymore, it’s illegal!!WOLFDREAMER250–didn’t you read her blog on this site, she has retired her strip and gone back to her old ones to revamp them. This gives her a chance to finally have a Life!!

JPuzzleWhiz, I know that! I already saw what John did to his son for that mess and somehow he realized that he should not get mad at Mike and then, both of them played in the pile of colorful leaves! Problem? Gimme a break!

Love it. John is a smart father. Now if only more parents had such good humor and good sense!

She’s running old strips? Why doesn’t she retire? She’s earned it

I can remember those days w/my Father, raking in the morning, jumping in the afternoon and burning them in the evening…nothing like to smell of burning leaves…..the smells of Fall. The colors are nice, but the smells are even better…..

I nearly had a heart attack when I saw the third-to-last panel, then I realized the word was “f-l-i-c-k.” Whew!
