   Like “Erewhon,” the Gulliver-esque tale of a land where people eat only cabbages certified to have died a natural death, and meat from animals who have committed suicide.
   An extraordinary number of animals in Erewhon do away with themselves by flinging themselves at knives in butcher shops.
