After the Vietnam war, a lot of former Army medics and Navy corpsmen came home and went into nursing, sometimes with great effect on the politics of the profession (male vs. female, nurses vs. doctors). But that was a long time ago and I’ve lost track of the state of the nursing profession. How are things now?

I’m not in the medical field, but when my mother was hospitalized several times in 2007, there were several male nurses (and too young to have served in Vietnam.) I’m guessing about 1 in 10 ratio, although that’s just a guess.

RRAmom, was that a military hospital? I’ve been in both military and civilian hospitals recently. I never saw a male nurse in the civilian hospital, but there were several in the military hospital.
pschearer, that’s what my brother did after Vietnam too.
