Okay, punctuation Nazi time (my deepest apologies): “Guess what.” is a command, not a question, therefore does not take a quesiton mark (sorry, I can’t help myself, if you’re offended just ignore me).

Often it’s spoken with the vocal inflection of a question, and therefore is so punctuated. It’s colloquial usage, not proper usage.
Third Law of Semantics (which generally trumps the other Two): words (and phrases) mean what people want them to mean. :)
I’m more curious about the non sequitur. Where’s the proof that Garfield and Jon are actually talking about the same thing? ;)

Rakkav, Non-Sequitur is several strips down from here!

Jon should know better than to prepare a food surprise with Garfield in the house.

He who laughs last probably didn’t get the joke.

Why is it the comments are funnier than the strip today? :-)

That happens more often than not - no matter how funny the strip is. There are exceptions, particularly when comments turn toward politics, as an example.

He who burps last has to buy more antacid…

JFri, in my line-up, Non Sequitar follows this strip.

Actually, Garfield only “talks” when animals can hear and understand him. What looks like a conversation with Jon and Garfield is merely John talking out loud and Garfield just thinking to to himself.

He should have put it in the bathtub

Jon, no matter where you hide something, Garfield’s gonna find it, especially if it’s food.

Maybe Garfield swallows the engagement ring that Jon plans to give Liz a surprise!

Now, that would be funny!

wildmustang, that would be so funny…. if Garfield ate the cake that had a ring in it. ROFLMAO! Now Garfield is going to be swallowing some EX-LAX very soon ….. LOL

Oh No! Now John is going to have to sift thorugh every ‘Deposit’ Garfiled makes in the Litterbox to retreive the Engagement Ring

Who says it IS an engagement ring? It could be just food. IF Jon hid an egagement ring in food, that would be the stupidest thing he ever did, because Garfield would find it - whether he knew it or not. Garfield doesn’t strike me as the type who would take the time to chew his food - so the aledged ring would just slide down the gullet with the rest of the food.

Maybe just her favorite food or something.
pomy2191 said, 4 months ago
jon is dumb so you can expect him to hide an engagement ring in food and not think that garfield can eat it
