   The California Prop 8 vote showed that Blacks can be just as bigoted as anyone else. So much for the ideal of Liberty and Justice FOR ALL.

   Hey jabo, read the story. Lot was the evil one, not the general populace. Lot offered up his virgin daughters to be raped by the mob in return for being left alone.

   Wrong, wndrthg. Summarizing Genesis 19:4-5:
   “Lot refused to give the visiting angels to the inhabitants of Sodom. They wanted to rape angels! He offered them his two daughters instead, but the people refused. The men were struck with blindness, allowing Lot and his family, who were then instructed to leave the city, to escape. As they made their escape the angels commanded that Lot and his family not look back under any circumstance. However as Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed with fire and brimstone by God, Lot’s wife looked back longingly at the city, and she was instantly transformed into a pillar of salt.”

   I always thought that it was real fatherly and loving of Lot to offer his daugthers to the mob. What a great guy! I think the angels could have saved themselves, being angels.

   MargieM, Imho: Lot’s conduct was the actions of a compromised man in a culture where a harem mindset was the norm as well as temple prostitution and ritualistic “free sex”; I am not excusing Lot’s action, but I think it should be judged in light of his contemporary standards and mores- The lack of individual rights I think is comparable to what is happening in Dharfur and the Sudan where among other things , sexual slavery is an accepted and encouraged practice amongst the Muslim populace(and probalby other groups). These practices(including child sacrifice and slavery) were the norm and often not the exception for ancient peoples. Hence the separation of Abraham and his descendants as role models for the later Israelites and the surrounding peoples. God did not leave free and imperfect mankind with out example of proper conduct.
