It’s a snowman Hobbes. That is why Calvin designed the experiment.

…..I’m not so sure about that Calvin, if past history is any indication.

Yes, he certainly should have steered better!

So did the toboggan survive????

It is saver for Calvin to make dummies!

I think Calvin has some sort of displaced aggression toward snowmen…

Beheaded, disemboweled, dismembered or a combination of the above?
BinaryWiener said, 4 months ago
I’d say the crash dummy (snowkid?) lost his noggin. Where’s insurance when you need it?
Herocoder said, 4 months ago
Well .. What if you did ‘steer’ like that? Hobbes is going to be more than sick ..

I love Hobbes face and comment! I think the poor little guy got beheaded myself.
They didn’t have any green shakes yesterday at the McDonald’s so I got strawberry instead. I did order the double fish fillet deal and the guy slipped two more in the bag for me. I saw him talking up close to the girl at the counter where they bag the sandwiches. It made my day and have to say the other couple I ate for breakfast this morning cold. Not your typical breakfast fare but it was yummy in my tummy! I think Hobbes would have liked that breakfast!

Are those things steerable?
I don´t know I saw snow (2 inches) once in my childhood
rshive said, 4 months ago
The result was gruesome enough to frazz Hobbes’ tail!
jrbj said, 4 months ago
On the other hand, he would have eventually melted anyway. This way it was quick and painless.

I think Calvin just gave Toyota some ideas to test their cars!!!!

who knew all that “stuff” was inside a snowman?
rdh288 said, 4 months ago
As always, Calvin manages to learn nothing
NoBrandName said, 4 months ago
mexdr1958 - yes, they are quite flexible, you steer by twisting the front end to the left or right and/or leaning to one side or the other and/or by “dropping anchor” (arm or leg) into the snow on one side or the other. When done properly, it will send the sled into a sharp 90-degree turn which sends it and everyone on it tumbling…
Come to think of it, I’m amazed I survived through childhood.

as a child, my best place for sledding was the street that dipped rather severely in my otherwise flat neighborhood back in the fifties. the thing that made it exciting was that, at the bottom , it intersected another street that had the right of way. so you had to make sure you either bailed out or did a quick maneuver or hope no cars were coming
I, too, am amazed that the survival rate was so high
midiranger said, 4 months ago
our dead end hill (street) had a wooden barrier at the end - about chin high when seated. So it was either bail out or lose your head. How did we all survive to adulthood.
Love Hobbs’ expression …

Good point, rshive. Never heard the term “frazz” before, but hadn’t noticed that Hobbes’ tail got all bushy in last frame until you noted it.

ratlum said, 4 months ago
Be prepared Hobbes in case Calvin gets ideas on using a more intelligent test dummy, namely you old friend
Evelyn said, 4 months ago
Yes, Calvin seems to be out to get the snowmen. He reminds me of a boy I know, who’d ride on a tricycle down an icy hill just to see if it could be done. :)
ed-in-toledo said, 4 months ago
Oh the humanity! Or would that be snowmanity?
Uskoke said, 4 months ago
That’s a decapitation strike
khpage said, 4 months ago
In light of the fact that in previous cartoons, Calvin would come back up the hill looking like the snowman with sticks and whatnot coming out of him, are we now seeing Calvin the automotive engineer beginning to show?
MrsLukeSkywalker said, 4 months ago
That snowman had it coming. He looked way too happy.
Dino-1 said, 4 months ago
I missed his tail in the last panel too, cool!

Isn’t it amazing how we all survived childhood?
We used to ride our bikes down a STEEP hill right beside the river,go over a narrow path, then shoot back up the other side. It was so much fun, it’s amazing that we didn’t run into the rushing Red River. It would have been certain death for sure.

We all survived to adulthood and we didn’t wear crash helmets. I never landed on my head, just rearranged my tailbone and ankle a couple of times. It’s amazing kids can even move today once they get all the padding on.

poor snowman got what he was accused of deserving which he didn’t deserve at all…
