Good cartroon – A better one was the one with both the Republican Elephant and the Democrat Donkey (or is it a mule?) in it and the voter is saying: “What this means is that we are frustrated and can’t stand either of you!”

Amen! But, if all the Republicrats fail to vote and if all the Demopublicans hold fast, they don’t need Republicrat support. All they want is “coverage” in the event things go south!

Looks more like an elephant seal actually. The Democratic MULE, is both stronger, and smarter, than either a horse or burro from which it is bred, combining the best qualities of both.
African elephants have tended to be “rogue” and very hard to talk sense to. Asian elephants are far more docile and willing to work.
Both parties now need to reflect on their emblems with a little more consideration of reconciling positive qualities, and stop the draw and quarter of the system.

According to Wikipedia:
Only one in a thousand mules are fertile.
All mules will get pregnant if mated, but the embryo develops for just a few days and then dies because it lacks the correct genetic instruction to develop further.

Yes, charlie, hybrids are infertile, plant or animal. Too bad that doesn’t apply to extreme radicals, of all stripes.

This is a great cartoon, I would love to congratulate Mr. Sargent for his witty commentary.
I would also like to add that this is a great example of why American two party system is dumb (sorry to be so reductionist, but to be honest, I actually think a two party system is plain stupid).
If not for one, then the other. Well sure that works when solving math problems, but not in politics. The US needs a mulitparty system, why? Because then voters AND politicians have a means of voicing their opinions and be able to better allign themselves for issues AND it requires something called CONSENUS, something that is severely lacking in American politics.

@ A.C.D. Until you get instant run off voting on a national scale, its only a pipe dream though I share your sentiment. Plus its a great way for cons to steal elections.
Ex. Con goes up against a Dem and a Progressive. Here’s the results:
Con: 45% of the vote
Dem: 35% of the vote
Progressive: 30% of the vote
Under our current “winner take all rule”, its easy to see who wins the election. And its a scenario being played all over the nation.

^excellent point regarding the current american system. It is clear that the US has grown enough that they should institute some more fairness in their system, otherwise they are going to be contanstly having to be forced to choose between a giant douche and a turd sandwich (south park). But it would be best if the US had a representative system, which would be more like holland.
such as, lets say 10 votes gets you a representative, and there are 100 citizens in your country. And there are three parties. CON, DEM, PROG (sorry to steal your names, but its easier that thinking up my own lol)
CON = 30 votes = 3 reps
DEM = 40 votes = 4 reps
PROG = 30 votes = 3 reps
Well then they need work with each other since none have a majority. The DEMs need to work with each group if they want their things passed, but can’t snub the other too much because they might need them later if they want to pass somehting the other does not. This requires a lot more finess and tact, but leads to a lot more working together than working against. This would avoid such “parties of NO” because if they ‘dont play well with others’ then they arent going to get very far with THIER issues later.
Well this is all a little simple, but I think this would be the most fair and effective system for the US. The US is a diverse and divided country, and it needs system where people can feel represented, but also feel they can accomplish soemthing without having to have this constant cycle of winner takes all, winner changes all, and then the reverse happens when the other side makes it into the office.
