Ted, c’mon. Parroting feminist myths that have been repeatedly disproven by facts may get you laid by liberal ladies, but it’s not going to change reality.

There is NO repeat NO evidence of men and women with the same qualifications, same seniority, same jobs, etc getting paid 73-80% of what their male counterparts are earning. The rare cases where individual businesses have been caught doing that since 1964 are so few and far between as to be freakish.

That 73-80% LIE is based on statistical average lifetime earnings for men and women in America. And before providing many specific examples, let me bottom-line things for you: men on average work a HELL of a lot more hours during their lives than do women. That is just rock-solid stone-cold fact. Which is where your 73-80 cents myth comes from, bro.

Specifically:

Men go into technology and hard sciences more than women.
Men are more likely to take hazardous jobs than women, and such jobs pay more than cushier and safer jobs.
Men are more willing to expose themselves to inclement weather at work, and are compensated for it (“compensating differences” in the language of economics).
Men tend to take more stressful jobs that are not “nine-to-five.”
Many women prefer personal fulfillment at work (child care professional, for example) to higher pay.
Men are bigger risk takers than women, in general. Higher risk leads to higher reward.
The worst working hours pay more, and men are more likely to work these hours than women.
Dangerous jobs (coal mining) pay more and are more male dominated.
Men tend to “update” their work qualifications more than women do.
Men are more likely to work longer hours, and the pay gap widens for every hour past 40 per week.
Women are more likely to have “gaps” in their careers, primarily because of child rearing and child care. Less experience means lower pay.
Women are nine times more likely than men to drop out of work for “family reasons.” Less seniority leads to lower pay.
Men work more weeks per year than women.
Men have half the absenteeism rate of women.
Men are more willing to commute long distances to work.
Men are more willing to relocate to undesirable locations for higher-paying jobs.
Men are more willing to take jobs that require extensive travel.
In the corporate world men are more likely to choose higher-paying fields such as finance and sales, whereas women are more prevalent in lower-paying fields such as human resources and public relations.
When men and women have the same job title, male responsibilities tend to be greater.
Men are more likely to work by commission; women are more likely to seek job security. The former has more earning potential.
Women place greater value on flexibility, a humane work environment, and having time for children and family than men do.

Amazingly, even though Girl Government now gives women every advantage in society possible–especially in the workplace–men still tend to accumulate more wealth by the time they die than do women. And again, it’s simply because THEY WORK LONGER, HARDER, UNDER MORE HARSH CONDITIONS ON AVERAGE THAN DO WOMEN.

Since you’re a man, stop lying about YOURSELF, Ted. :(

PS since right now nearly 2/3 of all college students are FEMALE, future generations will get your apparent wish, Ted. The majority of American men are fated–within 2-3 generations MAX–to wind up living at or near the poverty level, relegated to low-paying service sector jobs, while women will both earn and control most of the wealth.

And how do long you think such a pathetic matriarchy will endure, anyway? Nature didn’t create patriarchy just to annoy feminazis, you know…

FYI–Some of the most tedious, but significant work done in our place and time doesn’t pay money. Housework, for instance, is real work done more often than not by women, but for NO PAY.

If you want to murder our kid, the government gives you at least 9 months to do it–and will even pay for it, in many cases.And if we try to save our seed from being forcibly uprooted there will be a restraining order followed by our arrest, imprisonment, or death–OUR death, not just our kid’s death–depending on how hard we try to stop the murder of our offspring from taking place.

If you want to sue us for child support, Girl Government will put a gun to our heads and make us into your slaves, taking 30-50% of all our earnings and property away just because you chose to spread your legs, usually just to get a free ride on the SNAP program and land Section 8 housing (over 30 million single females sucking off EBT cards now, increasing at a faster pace than any time in History) . You will be free to fornicate with all the men (or women, or animals, or any combination thereof) you want, move far away so we never see our kid(s) at all, and STILL make us pay you for 18 years for doing nothing. Hell, you can blow 100% of your “child support” buying lottery tickets and crack cocaine, so far as Girl Government is concerned. Barring extraordinary circumstances, they don’t CARE.

I’ll stop now. You feminists are all liars, users, losers, mentally ill people whom no sane man should get within 10 feet of, if they value their lives and livelihoods…

My, my, scott certainly is in fine form today. More power to you, Ted; I’ve seen this myself as my mother continually was promoted to be the highest-ranking woman in her company – but had to perform at a higher level than the equivalently promoted men around to get there. Fortunately, that wasn’t difficult, for her. AND she raised five kids to go to top schools and be successful men and women themselves.
What scotty also conveniently overlooks is that even women working full time – and EQUAL time to the men – still do more of the housework and child care.

Evidently he also thinks raising a child isn’t as important as being a gun-totin’, rootin’-tootin’ travelin’ wild man with no constraints put on him by those doggone women and children.

First personal tidbit about myself I’ve ever divulged and, hopefully ther last, since on the internet anecdotal evidence is obviously open to both fraud and abuse…

IRL I currently work both with, and for, women.

They mostly suck, quite literally, and are more akin to children than adults. The men in my workplace do all of the real work, while the women mostly just flap their gums to each about about how great they are, and enjoy bullying whichever beta male happens to be nearest, since the MALE company owner died in a plane crash and was replaced by his feminist daughter–a woman whom could never have built the business she is now running, though is doing a bang-up job of slowly destroying (overall profit margin down 22% since the owner’s death, a trend steadily spiking downward with no end in sight, though you’d never know it since every weekly newsletter usually sings her praises and exhalts female workers and female efforts, it’s as pathetic as what happened at Volvo after a woman became CEO and changed the company logo to the NOW symbol, gotta love seeing tractor-trailers with the feminist logo flashing from the grille, 98% or so of which are driven by men, using technologies which were ALL created by men, not that you’ll ever see a male logo flashed at you in chrome anywhere).

Also, only by both lowering professional and physical standards AND by giving preferential treatment in both education and hiring, are women able to “compete.” SOME women are better / equal in performance to SOME men, but for the most part they–again–just suck, and get a free pass while guys do the bulk of the heavy lifting.

Anyway, it’s just old-fashioned pre-Christian pagan goddess-worship all you feminist types are indulging in. Nothing new, it was one of Paul’s biggest problems back in ancient Greece as he tried to preach the good news about Jesus, so I suppose we should be used to it by now…

Wait. As a rule, only literal or cultural eunuchs are content to succumb to goddess-worship. In ANY form.

I’m not arguing with God–that’s the bottom line. After the Fall, God handed out distinct forms of punishment to both men and women.

Man’s punishment first and foremost revolved around work. The fact women are choosing to heap this punishment onto themselves might be tragic if it weren’t such a farce. Too often women just PRETEND to work, especially in any job which demands a college degree (a waitress at Denny’s works ten times harder during any given 8 hours than your average chick parked behind a desk somewhere, flapping her gums while staring into a monitor screen, and that’s a fact).

Woman’s punishment partly revolved around childbirth, and here is where females have really devoted their efforts into being weasels. They use both contraception and abortion to try and escape it, and then as a last resort (or as a first resort, in most ghettos) steal money from me and everyone else and then give it to themselves if they are forced to endure it (in the form of Medicaid, EBT cards, Section 8 housing, etc).

Bah, waste of text. Reality IS what it IS, God’s punishments for sin are hard-wired into the very fabric of our universe, and people can lie and deceive each other all they want–they still can’t escape it.

America isn’t the world. You examine the planet as a whole, and the patriarchy is still alive and well. You’ll never kill it because you CAN’T. Islam is busily heaping ugly vengeance upon women for every man deprived of a normal husband/father role in the West, and the more things change, the more they stay the same.

I agree that sometimes men are badly treated. The image of men in the medias is that of a childish, dumb, selfish idiot à la Homer Simpson facing nearly perfect women à la Marge (a vestige of the infant’s idealized image of his mother, if you ask me, not feminism). It shouldn’t be that way, men are not like that and women are not like that either.

Men should also have more right reguarding their children (another vestige of the idealized image we had of our mothers when we were infants).

My favorite bit of greek philosophy is the book five of Plato’s The Republic. The philosophers say that since we don’t have different jobs (guarding cattle) for female and male dogs, why should men and women have different functions when it comes to jobs?

Look at the animal kingdom; female bobcat has kittens, she doesn’t wait for a man to bring her and her kittens food, she gets it herself and teaches her young how to hunt in the process.

Look, I can cope with being in a basically feminist workplace where arrogant, unaccountable women are basically parasiting off the sweat and thoughts of a man now dead. Eventually they’ll have nothing left to trash and by then they’ll be just a bad memory to me anyways.

I do not support “affirmative action” but totally support EQUAL OPPORTUNITY- for ALL folks. That is where both “liberal” and “conservatives” have messed up by kissing tail on those they wanted support from.

If affirmative action isn’t a right-wing concept as well to appoint incompetent females- two words- Sarah Palin.

Truly Scott, if you want some peace and quiet, then work for yourself. Stop being employed. I realized when I was 18 that working for anybody else is going to be a drag for ever and ever. Luckily I knew how to paint signs, design logos, and when I sell a painting, then I guess I’m an artist. Now I’m 53 years old and it’s as though I live on another planet very unlike yours. My brother, a little younger, is stark raving mad from being employed and is currently looking for yet another job. Paint houses, do handyman work, repair motorcycles, do SOMETHING and get away from your boss. Create your own reality and be your own boss. Do you want to punch a time clock until the day you drop? All you are is a servant to somebody else’s profits and a slave in THEIR environment. You only help facilitate their well-being, not your own. You constantly talk about American women being the biggest whiners in the world, but not a one can hold a candle to you! So do something about it dude. This is life and it’s ticking away very quickly.

You make some good points–nothing I’m not already aware of, though.

I have both owned and ran my own businesses before. I did great at household refrigeration until the early 1990s, when the Demoncrat congress threw me out of work with their lies about “man-caused holes in the earth’s upper atmosphere layers” and whatnot. They banned cheap, safe, R-12 Freon, replaced it with an expensive and highly toxic new refrigerant which was grossly inefficient by comparison, piled on tons of new regulations, licensing, fees, permits, and other nonsense, all of which together required me to not only trash the bulk of my tools and equipment but submit myself to endless bureacracy, possible fines and imprisonment any time any of the old R-12 leaked out into the atmoosphere, etc etc ARGH don’t make me think of how Girl Government screwed me based solely on an environmental hoax, not unlike today’s “climate change…”

I’d like to be self-employed again but am currently out of ideas, to be honest. Yet your points about being self-employed are still perfectly valid, I will grant you that…

God, how I wish we had Liberty again. Instead of this oppressive Girl Government nanny-state that is steadily eroding more and more of our creativity, our independence, our ability to dare to dream and make it happen without some arrogant typically female burecrat stepping forth to tell us why we CAN’T be allowed to do something… not unless we’re female, black, hispanic, gay, old, pay our carbon taxes, do this, do that, do the other thing..

Cartoon: A man laid off work with no prospects who has given up, and not without justification since there are no jobs for men. A woman who is having no trouble holding her professional job, a job paying 80% of what the man used to make, but still paying 80% while he’s getting 0.

Since the captions and cartoons do not mesh, this strip is much more complicated than the simple idea you are ranting against.

No, it contains many elements which I didn’t reference, is all.

I understand that, in reality, “the author of a document establishes the meaning”. Which is to say, Ted Rall alone knows more about what this cartoon means than anyone else…. and so far, he isn’t elaborating.

It’s also a work of art, and all who view it will interpret it through their own individual lens.

But as a Christian, and recognizing that objective universal truths concerning this created universe DO exist, I alluded to such in my commentary. While basically venting slash lamenting that we contemporary Americans do, in fact, live in an American culture created far more by The Feminists than by The Founders.

2009 AD is the World According to Gloria Steinhem far more than the World According to John Adams. And on the whole, I would much prefer the America created by John Adams.

Particularily since John Adams struggled, suffered, and sacrificed much to help create America, while Steinheim and her ilk merely throw selfish pity-parties and get filthy rich by helping to tear down that which they did not and could not have possibly built…

What I really don’t agree with in this toon is the woman calling the man an oppressor. Men are not all like that, not even most of them.

As for the Godly women I have known… I wouldn’t say any of them had “careers” as the term is commonly used, Since the pursuit of monetary gain in a secular work environment, doing work unconnected with glorifying God, holds little to no appeal for Godly women. Their hearts are focused on Christ, their views shaped by the Bible. There isn’t much of interest to such women in working for Century 21, selling real estate, or even working at an EZ Mart convenience store, selling people cigarettes and lottery tickets and booze and condoms and porno mags…

Obviously the Godly women whose memories I cherish the most are ones whom I personally interacted with. How could it be otherwise?

Abigail Adams is the rare example of a Godly woman I did not personally know yet whom i have much love for, based upon reading literally thousands upon thousands of her own words, penned mostly to either her husband or to one of their mutual friends (such as Thomas Jefferson).

I envy Abigail for never having been alive during the age of electronic media. There are undoubtedly countless reasons why God chose the printed Word to be his main method of communication with His creatures (insofar as learning to understand Him; to be sure, prayer works even better once you have established a true and personal relationship with Him); it has not escaped my attention that all the ugliest, most deceitful forms of communication are primarily visual–that is, IMPOSED visuals, rather than imagined ones created within one’s own spirit (mind).

Some wag once said a picture is worth a thousand words, but in almost all cases I prefer 1000 words to any one given picture.

We know of Jesus through His words; and there are important reasons why His disciples never described His physical appearance, nor cared to even try.

We live today in the age of Imagery, in which even the most stupid, venal, and even truly evil people become known worldwide based almost exclusively on their looks. Hollywood is virtually nothing BUT images, as is advertising.

Hence, I know better than to become fixated on a woman’s looks, or to try and imagine / create a relationship with one based solely on such. I do not indulge in celebrity worship…

And am now done indulging in personal anecdotes involving myself. I will from now on leave that to motivemaggot and his ilk. :/

I care only to discuss and debate ideas, truths, concerning this created reality all of us have been born into… including all the past segments which involved people whom are now dead to us, though not dead to God, since in Him we all live and move and have our being, whether here on Earth or in the Eternity which exists outside of it, inside of which are contained all the people whom have ever been created, from Adam and Eve to all of the boys and girls being expelled from their mother’s birth canals even now, as I type these very words…

I think you all misunderstood Ted’s message today. To me, he’s not excoriating the “patriarchy”. He’s pointing out that, with so many women graduating college, less of the males would find jobs than in the past. That is why there is a Layoff notice on the floor next to the sleeping”workaholic oppressor” There aint enough jobs to go around when all the women are holding outside jobs. whereas our economy was always predicated on the “nuclear” family, which is a thing rapidly vanishing.

Ted’s a complex guy. I still think he leans more towards the NOW website misinformation than anything else, yet I have no doubt there are many other things he wished to convey–things which he may have only been aware of subconciously, not articulated in audible words inside his brain so much as a complex stew served to him all at once, and which he struggled to first digest, then regurgitate to others…

Ted, you’ve sometimes commented to your Comments section before, and I hope this strip is one upon which you will do so. There is so much STUFF layered in each one of your cartoons, it’s why I am as helplessly drawn to them as some people are to the scene of multi-car pile-ups on Interstate highways…. I don’t always want to look, I try not not to, but something just seems to always MAKE me end up looking, you know?

How much do you care to reveal, if anything, about this strip? Are you all about the feminist mantra or are you poking fun at its inevitable consequences? Both? Neither?

church, I’ve been reading these thinking I’d stay out of it, but I read your comment and must disagree at least in part.
1. scott came in both guns ablazing with an extremely long post – no one had mentioned him up to that point. It was an abusive post – or if you will, vitriolic. This was full blown attack, not defensive.
2. The next post addressed some of his issues. In fact, several of them did.
3. If you’re telling me that you’re happy with what scott is saying, I’ll be very disappointed because I’ve considered most of your posts intelligent and well reasoned even if I don’t often agree with them. If you’re telling me that the just plain bizarre and abusive posts from scott should simply stand, I think most here will disagree.
4. It is not merely the liberals (as you insinuate) complaining about scott, you are plain wrong. Others on the right have asked him to cool it, too.
5. We all get worked up in the discussion/arguments, but with a few exceptions (steve, remember him?), go off the deep end. But on the whole, I’d say people here have answered his arguments repeatedly.

cd, my opening post was mostly a dry intoning of economic facts about why men earn more than women over the course of a LIFETIME, gleaned dispassionately from mostly dry dull and boring economists.

The fact I paraphrased their text into simple English WITHOUT in any way distorting what their statistics pointed out is beside the point, imo.

People knee-jerked off the deep end at me from there and since even on my days off I can only play an MMO like Aion in small doses (I should try World of Warcraft again, haven’t logged in since we had Blackwing Lair on farm status back in mid ‘05), AND unlike John Adams I am not satisfied to ONLY read during my free time, I wound up getting sucked in to venting about the hated Feminist culture I had the sad misfortune to be born into.

So sue me. If not for feminism, I am sure one of the more than 30+ million women with an EBT card tucked inside their pockets or purses would be my wife right now, and I would neither play MMOs nor devote much, if any , time to commenting on editorial cartoons… :/

Women should NOT be paid by taxpayers to do nothing starting at age 16 or so but fornicate, produce illegitimate kids, and grow obese while watching Oprah and the View and whining about how crappily men treat them. Nor should women be allowed to murder their unborn children at a whim, while men are forbidden from having any rights to their own biological offspring, while simultaneously being held responsible by their government for every act of fornication they indulge in, while women are free to either enslave them at will, or else parasite off that same government for eighteen years, with no penalties or consequences or even personal responsibility…

Women would have to be downgraded under law a LOT to be merely treated “equally’. As it is, they are currently all treated like child princesses…
