With affirmative action in place, yes, it no doubt is fairly easy for “some” people…

I’m not thrilled that Osama took 3 months to grant 80% of the troops his general requested, when the main thing his general stressed was that time was of the essence.

And what are we going to DO with the added troops?

I sure hope our troop casualty rate goes down, not up… :/

My faith in Osama as commander-in-chief is so low I would not have objected a whit if he had withdrawn all the troops back home. Better to wait and see than watch Nam-style demoralized troops wandering about the Afghan mountains thinking, “Okay, I know what our current mission is, but what’s it got to do with WINNING? I still don’t get what we’re trying to DO here, or how it will ever lead to any of us going back home…”

Well, I agree with the last part of your comment, scott. And by last part, I mean the one about the casualty rate.

I agree with scott, but not that i dont have trust in obama to do something, but rather I dont have faith in the afghan war. It is a money pit and a grave for many a great soldier.

Well at least it seems that Obama is slowly but surely putting down his “protest because it makes you popular” hat and putting on a “make unpopular but necessary decisions” hat.

It’s probably chafing him like h* to do it, and now the far left is losing faith in him. How is Hollywood going to deal with him making Bush-like decisions?

If he wants to win he will have to raise taxes to pay for it.

These wars have been unfunded with the revenue needed to operate them coming from general funds while giving tax cuts to those who really do not need them.

Raise taxes on the rich with the attitude of paying for these wars and we will be out of there in no time.

    Cmon folks, it’s a catch 22.
Sending more troops, for critics, means he is a warmongering Bush-lite, withholding troops on the other hand means he is neglectful and irresponsible about our long term security, and a failure at ending the war responsibly.

Had he responded quicker, he would have been criticized for being too reckless. Had he waited for a longer time, well, we know how it goes…

The only positive thing I can fathom about this nightmare, this deplorable situation for both soldiers and the innocent women and children dying, is that it may reveal the nobility of soldiers (on both sides even), remind people of the horrors of war, of how war has to be considered as a final resort to end a crisis, a justifiable one, not a means to an end, even if “terrorism!” is being blared and flailed about by the warmongering and conspiring, Christian-distorted neoconservative media machine of special interests and deluded, absurd and risibly paranoid, power-hungry ideologues; and finally, I hope it reveals once and for all, the real, monstrous face of the military-industrial complex.

Heads up for the Neocons, right wing dingbats, and Howie; the information has already been leaked. On December 1st an official announcement will be made of the decision to send an additional 32,000 troops to Afghanistan.

This will give you assorted idiots time to come up with a spontaneous reaction. Given your limited intellectual capacity, I’m making it easy. Just choose one of the following.

    A. Why is he rushing into it?

    B. 32,000 is too many!

    C. Can’t he just end it? What have the Taliban done to us?

    D. This is change we can believe in?

    E. 32,000 isn’t enough!!

    F. Where is Taliban? (ANandy is a little confused.)

Thanks for your clarifying the options Plain (Indeed) Bill.
But part of your synopsis is that you have run choices that either end of the political spectrum will endorse, surely not the ‘fringe’ which you believe is the right wing only. Comeon, self professed intellectual giant, YOU tell us the right way to go!

    Let’s see:

The British Empire tried it… and lost.

The Soviet Empire tried it… and lost.

The American Empire is trying right now.

    Btw, they lost in Vietnam.

Check the motivations of the British Empire and the Soviet Union.
Is it fair to say, you make the requirement for anything you become involved in, for you to be guaranteed victory?
How self satisfied you must be.
Comeon, offer up a bit more than a four line summation.

Wrong ananim. The British Empire and The Soviet Union wanted to occupy Afghanistan, be the administrators. We want to rid the world of those who would do us and our friends and allies much harm. If you think differently, name the countries that we occupy as part of our expansionist/imperialist ways.

    Understand the motivations, but honestly.

As I recall Catch 22 is about WW2 bomber crew man who kept asking how long to finish his 25 required missions and no one knew because no one lived to finish the 25 missions.
    He wanted out.
He claimed to be unfit because he was crazy.
Because he flew in these missions he knew he was crazy.
Because he would be have to be crazy to fly in these missions the Army Air core certified him sane or some such twisted logic.
