Jan Eliot's funny and irreverent Stone Soup follows the saga of an extended, blended family, starring two working-mom sisters living just across the fence from each other. Val and Joan share life with their opinionated mother, a middle-school diva and 10-year-old tomboy, a reclusive teenage boy, a wild preschooler and his new baby sister...and of course Wally, the ultimate nice guy who steps into his stepdad shoes with grace amid the chaos. Working-parent hassles, pre-school tantrums, middle-school angst, love and the single mom... it's all here in Stone Soup.

Most dogs wouldn’t wait for it to drop. Chicken bones are NG for dogs, they splinter.
Happy Independence Day!

I’m surprised he doesn’t just grab it.

normljones, I remember an acquaintance in Memphis whose two dogs (greyhound and “large” chihuahua) happened to survive chicken bones.
The dogs had polished off a fried-chicken dinner (which had been set aside for the family) bones and all–they had no physiological ill-effects from the bones, but they did get a fortnight punishment.

Suprised the the pup didn’t snatch out of Max’s hand!

bigg3469, that would set her up for Max to drop the spider on her (reiteration for Macush–Biscuit is a female).

I’m thinking he should pick up the spider and give ot Alix to replace the bug he squished.

Anyone know a good “doggie tummy-ache relief” to give to my Hot Dog Stealing Dog?
I was considering something similar to a produce know for it’s advertising line “Plop-Plop Fizz-Fizz Oh what a relief it is” in case she gets to cycle-purging (“barfing”) after eating 2 hot dogs, one bun - toped with ketchup, mustard, horseradish & onions! Gonna stick with lots of water for the moment - anyone know how dogs & onions get along?
I was enjoying some grilled franks chatting with my neighbor when I put my plate down to pick something else up…hummm. Is she a “lucky dog” or ?? I’m not concerned about the hot dogs - it’s the toppings I’m hoping don’t make a re-appearance…ewww. She’s outdoors now - just in case…

NO ONIONS FOR DOGS! I’ve been told before by my vet that onions and chocolate are poison for dogs (something about metabolism).
Maybe some dogs react better (i know some eat chocolate quite often and nothing happens) but i’ll take her to the vet.

Thanks FerAd - I thought that was true about onions. I bought her back into the house after about a half hour. She’s laying on the floor - seems OK. It seems like my animal friends like to get in trouble during the holidays or after the vet’s office closes - I’ll keep an eye on her.
Not sure how many chopped onions she may have ate - she’s a Collie/Shepherd mix - aka Biggie Dog weighing in at 70lbs (at her last visit to the vet). AND obviously tall enough to reach the table I place my plate upon. She was checking out the onions, etc on the floor when I caught her in the act and tossed her out in the back yard while I cleaned up the floor.

@GJ_Jehosaphat:
Funny! Thanks for the tip at State of the Union.
First time I’ve read this strip. The funny ones are a lot easier on your heart and health.
Today’s a perfect day to relax and laugh, and get away from our political debates…
…and simply enjoy the 4th of July celebration.

Jor-El - I’ll add an Amen to that! Now I’m going for a walk with Biggie Dog - before the fireworks start getting loud. I close the windows, close the blinds, turn on the fans & air conditioner (frequencies from the whitenoise (electronics term) cancels out some of the noise from the fireworks).
It’s about 3 hours to sunset here in the Pacific NW - Enjoy however you choose to celebrate!
