Reasoning is certainly out of the question with these people.
Ask any T-bagger if they are willing to give up any of the three services that they might be receiving and watch their tone change to the entitled few.

    — no ! - a tea-bagger wouldn’t be yelling at old people, sick people, or the unemployed.
    — the object is to have very limited government and to have one without the rampant corruption. The tea-baggers will work for solutions - and not simply yell at the problems like the far left (only) does.
    — Tony Auth gives himself away as a name-calling, far-left wingnut - as the yelling solution (which does nothing) is the only one of which he can conceive… this cartoon makes no sense.

Seeing ordinary, decent Americans demonized by the media simply for trying to improve their out-of-control goverment is getting old.

Let’s hear some personal eyewitness testimony from an African-American man who is personally involved with this “movement:”

(the following excerpts are taken fron a recent essay available over at http://www.americanthinker.com/

“My patience was short with the newspaper reporter. I am Lloyd Marcus, singer/songwriter, a participant in the national Tea Party Express II tour: 19 states, 40 rallies. At our final rally in Orlando, Florida, a reporter approached me. She had a “these people are a bunch of nuts” attitude and a smirk on her face.

Though annoyed, I was polite, and I refused to answer her questions from a defensive point of view. Approximately 4,000 patriots were in attendance. Despite numerous speakers who expressed valid disagreements with the Obama administration, like a pit bull, the reporter latched on to one questionable comment made by one speaker.

What so offended me was not just this reporter, but most of the liberal-biased media’s campaign to portray the tea party attendees in a negative light: racists, rednecks, angry mob, and just plain stupid. This arrogant reporter was the straw that broke the camel’s back. I confronted her: “Why are you totally ignoring all of the legitimate concerns of the people and focusing on one comment by one person?” She scribbled on her note pad without answering my question.

She walked away probably thinking I was a jerk or a nutcase, but I did not care. I took it personally, her attempting to trash the people I have met across America and have come to love and respect. How dare she trash my family?

Folks, the Tea Party Express II Tour was my third time traveling and participating in rallies across America. I have met and embraced the American people and they me. They call me brother because we share values. They are not racists. They are hard-working, decent people concerned for their families, grandchildren, and country.

Here are a few of my fondest memories.

Lloyd’s Journal: Tea Party Express II Tour

Surprisingly, most of our crowds on the Tea Party Express II Tour through small town America were a thousand-plus. Our first TPX tour focused on major cities. This tour was through the heartland, where diner servings were sized for Paul Bunyan. I now have a slight belly to lose.

In Cheyenne, WY, I met Smokey, a fine twenty-five-year old truck driver. He apologized to me for the small crowd (300 people). Smokey said his mom downloaded the poster, which he copied and posted all over town. It frustrated him that the crowd was not bigger. I told Smokey that he and the organizers did a great job. Cheyenne is a small town. Most folks are at work on a Tuesday morning. Those who attended were enthusiastic and grateful. I thanked Smokey for a job well done. Smokey is symbolic of the spirit and grassroots nature of the tea party movement, of everyone contributing in their own way, no matter how small in their eyes.

A big tall man, six-foot-something, wearing a straw hat, bib overalls, flannel shirt, and a ZZ Top-style gray beard approached me…said his name was Norwegian Jim. The gentle giant gave me a bear hug and thanked me for what I am doing for our country. Jim confided that he had a wooden leg and was due for a new one. He said, “A new leg costs $20,000. I’m a wood carver. If ObamaCare passes, I may have to carve my next leg.”

    A Great Day in Texas!

He hated it when we called him “cheese head”. Hustusa is a forty-something white male who followed both of our Tea Party Express tours across America. He wore a triangle hat shaped like the cheese head hats worn by Green Bay Packer football fans. His hat read “I didn’t vote for this Obamanation” on all three sides. He also carried a tall sign and sold buttons at every rally. A general contractor by trade, Hustusa said his business phone stopped ringing the day after Obama was elected. He lost his home earlier this year.

In Amarillo, TX, I met a feisty grandmother who is raising a little boy, not her own, on a widow’s income. She was definitely not infected with the entitlement mindset being spread by liberal democrats. “I never asked nobody for a bailout!” she proudly told me.

At every rally, the crowds anticipated, loved, and cheered my now famous trademark opening line: “I am not an African-American. I am Lloyd Marcus, AMERICAN!” In Beaumont, TX, a white cowboy (tall, lean, cowboy hat, western shirt, jeans, and boots) approached me, pushing a stroller with two black babies. He said, “My babies are hyphenated Americans until we get their citizenship a week from today.” He explained that he and his wife (also white) wanted children who really needed them. The couple believes God led them to adopt their two black babies from Ethiopia. “Today they are Ethiopian-Americans. Next week, they will be Americans!” the father proudly proclaimed. But how could such a “colorblind” act of love happen? The Left says only racists attend the tea parties. “This movement is all about racists hating a black man in the White House,” says Jeanine Garofalo.

A Texas woman asked me to inform America about the plight of our truckers. Her husband, along with hundreds of thousands of other truckers across America, has lost his job; hundred-year-old trucking companies are out of business, and once-thriving truck stops are half-empty.

Black clergy are firing up the crowds, touting the virtues of God and country at tea parties. They worship Godly principles over skin color. I am still baffled as to how a Christian could reconcile voting for Obama based on his abortion policies alone.

On the tour, I also met young black conservatives running for political seats traditionally controlled by liberal Democrats. Yes, the times, they are a changin’. No longer are blacks sheepishly and mindlessly following the leading of so-called black leaders who thrive on convincing them they are victims.

Interestingly, most of the blacks I chatted with at the tea parties were current or ex-military. They have lived around the world, and they realize that America truly is “a shining city on a hill.” Sorry, all you globalists, but America is peerless.

We blacks are blessed to live in the greatest land of opportunity on the planet. The day the majority of black Americans realize this truth is the day they can finally say, to quote MLK, “Free at last, thank God almighty, we’re free at last!” Dr. King made that statement referring to the tyranny blacks suffered from white racism in America. He could never have imagined that blacks would someday need to be freed from the tyranny of traitorous blacks and liberal whites who wish to keep them on the government plantation.

Another phenomenon I noticed while on tour is that all across America, citizens are running for political office for the first time.

Traveling on the Tea Party Express II Tour is an experience I will cherish for the rest of my life. Numerous people told us seeing our bus roll into town was extremely exciting and brought tears to their eyes. We represented hope!

To pass the long hours riding on the bus, our team watched the DVD of the HBO series “John Adams.” Like our founding fathers, our team feel like patriots fighting for freedom, liberty, and the preservation of our Constitution. My heart was stolen by the great American people. As God gives me strength, I will continue fighting for them. God Bless.”

Funny we should be getting upset with the bankrupting of SS and the waste that is the bureaucracy of Medicare that will be bankrupt. As for the unemployed. I am yelling at the government to get out of the way in order to hire them.
But of course our community Acorn organizer in chief thinks the only good government jobs should trickle down to save jobs.

  6. Bruce4671

    Bruce4671 said, 5 days ago

When a person wants to share some insight on a group of fellow citizens and maybe get a little truth on record then he’s “long winded”. Maybe your ADD is just making it’s presence known.

The Social Security Act was part of FDR’s New Deal and was signed into law in 1935. Until that time it was up to a presons family to take care of their elderly, sick or disfunctional. But our nation was too “progressive” for that concept to continue on.

Unemployment benefits and medicare are also funded through the SS Act.

Tony got this wrong. Conservative are upset at government for screwing up these programs and creating a class of citizens that are handicapped by the idea they are entitled to support from the government.

Remnember that the government creates NOTHING and has NO MONEY of it’s own. Everything it has it TAKES from it’s citizens. That’s why the founding fathers were so upset about being taxed without their consent.

Have you read the Declaration of Independence? No? Not since high school and then JUST the preamble. Well maybe you should. You may be suprised at the list of grievances put forth and how similar to what our government is doing now….I’m just saying

A true “Tea Party” would have been active during the last administration when our rights were trampled on and in some cases eliminated. The original tea party wasn’t about the tax on tea if anyone really thinks about it. That was the excuse for the beginning protest against the tyrannies of the Crown. The tea tax was something most people of the time could relate to. Taxes are necessary to pay for the government services we enjoy. Some would have us pass these costs on down to our offspring and not worry about the consequences. I applauded the Clinton years when our National Debt was paid down, little as that was.

Well, Bruce4671, the list of grievances in the US Declaration of Independence deals at length with military provocations against the colonies and attempts to subvert their governments. How strange that those who claim to respect the spirit of this document and who see themselves as conservative do not see that their government is committing the same type of transgressions against foreign lands of which the signers of the Declaration lay at the feet of the government of George III - but now with a far more lethal technology ! When are you so-called «conservatives» going to demand that the US Government disband its huge «Standing Armies» and cease quartering «large bodies of armed troops» on its more than 700 military bases at all quarters of the globe - the type of activity so rightly castigated by the signers ?…

Henri: How right you are! This country does do just what you say and I’m against it. I think We should bring every last one of our troops home. Why maintain bases in europe or asia or central and south america (been to all these places while serving in the USArmy). think of the money saved there. And foriegn aid. Why give money to all these countries so they can build up their armies and kill their own citizens. Again, money saved. Of course those countries (their government maybe not the people) WANT the US there and have signed treaties and so forth for that to happen not like the British Empire did to the colonies. The British placed their armies to control the population and levied taxes on the colonies to pay for that occupation while the US is there as a protection for those governments (and our own interest too of course) and bring a boost to their economy so there isn’t really a comparison there.

The “tea party” folks are THE TORIES! They on one hand say “small government”, but wanted Bush and Cheney to reign as kings. As to taxing the colonies- remember when Cheney et al said that IRAQIS would pay all the costs of OUR war against THEM??? Oh, right, dominance under corporate kings is “freedom” we will grant them.

Their real view of “small government” is a king with absolute power to hand favoritism out to members of their court.

Never said I agree or support anything any government does, although there are things that I do support. We all have to take what is dished out by whatever media source you listen to UNLESS we have first hand knowledge which means we have talked to, been with, seen, listened to thought about and come to a private desicion on these issues.

How many are just repeating what is reported by cnn, nbc, abc msnbc cbs (all liberal outlets) or by fox (a conservative one) and have not gone to a rally or town hall or talked with their rep? I would guess most.

The one question I have is Why does all this have to be done right now? Stimulus, health care reform, cap and trade, immigation reform if isn’t all done right now then the world will just collapse.

When you rush into things you make mistakes. By making everything a crisis you won’t pay attention to the details. And the details are going to runi you and your children.

I am retired. I worked 46 years and made sure my retirement was secure. I am not on social security. I do pay for my own health care. I never made over $50,000 in any year. I raised 4 children during that time. I don’t want someone else deciding my future by making laws that will tax my retirement, tax my health care, restrict my medical decisions. I have a right and a responsibility to voice that concern to my government representatives. By saying that a person that participates in that democratic process (tea parties) demeans himself and his country shows how little you know about what makes America different from the rest of the world. It’s why everyone (like u doc) wants to be an American citizen. If you don’t like it…move back to Canada. It’s a great country with very progessive ideas.

  32. a.c.d

I have a few things to say as an outsider. Scotts article from freethinker.com stated that tea party members are not racist because there are a few black people there and there are even some white folks who adopted some ethiopian children. So clearly if some tea baggers are not racist then all tea baggers cant be racist right? WRONG, it DOESNT MATTER IF SOME BLACK PEOPLE ARE THERE WITH THE TEA BAGGERS. That doesnt mean that a majority of them aren’t racist. And more importantly, the whole thing about tea baggers is not about race. It is about a misunderstanding and crying for dissent for the mere sake of dissent. They have no legitimate claim to anything.
There is an absolute need for health care reform, the current system will bancrupt the country and the people, so if you dont like the current system, come up with something else of shut up.
Secondly, the ideological rhetoric that is coming from these people is muddled and misguided at best. The current economic system is the result of a mismanaged economy.
For a proper economy to function you need transperancy, light but tight regulation (regulate on the macro level and leave the micro level up to the market where inbalances can be more easily and quickly adjusted by the market where the principles of supply and demand are actually at play) and a means of punishing those that do not obey the rules. These are all necessary reforms. The lack of regulation, oversight and transperancy are what caused this mess in the first place. Even Allan Greenspan, the champion of free markets stated under oath that the market DOES NOT PROPERLY REGULATE ITSELF. It is a totaly myth, and only an idiot could put his faith in the market.
There is a reason why we as humans build shelters, dams and tools, because we need to control, regulate and manage the world around us, otherwise we are at the mercy of the tides, winds and weather. And what applies to our homes, our food and our lives also applies to our economy.
And I would like to add that supply and demand theory is NOTHING BUT A THEORY! It has been shown to work on the small scale with a few examples, but has NEVER EVER EVER EVER been shown to work as a total economic system (I am not kidding, look it up).

Sorry Doc, I read most of what you say but made the mistake of thinking that it was the other way. So that a good thing that you can practive what you preach and I applaud you for it. I mean it when I say Canada is a great country. However, if your not a US citizen then you must not have a dog in this fight so why do you care what the US does? Just asking, no real agenda..

Well, Moosey, (back to the recess playground here) your bills are a contract you read, agreed to and signed so you should expect to pay them on time as per your agreement. But really, that’s all I’m saying. We need to read, agree to and sign a contract on helth care for the US. What we don’t need to do is sign a contract wait until the first payment comes due and realize WHAT? I can’t afford this! So then we read what we have agreed to and gee there it is an 8% increase in my income tax, the cost of my meds has risen 20% because of the tax burden passed along to consumers or basic health care cost has gone up because of tax passed along to consumer and now I MUST belong to the government program because that’s what the contract says. But I rant…..

Yes, we are like a big big ship that’s full of water and we need to patch the holes. Why don’t we dive in and find the holes that need patching (I’ve actually done this with a boat..go figure) like the fraud and corruption in the current system first rather than just throw out a big rubber sheet and hope that it doesn’t get pulled through the holes…..

And finally, since we have devolved to recess level, if everybody else jumps off the cliff does that mean you need to jump too?

Ther are systems that work well around the world it seems and there are those that don’t. Seems like a hugh tax obligation is the trade off in most cases. I’m NOT SAYING that the US should not go to a universal health care system. I’m saying the country can not manage the debt that it has now (I DON’T CARE WHOSE FAULT IT IS) and we need to patch that hole first before we incure more debt.

The Price here is higher ( by twice ) than anywhere else in the world.( Do you have a problem with little kids and old people having access to their Meds.)
The # 1 reason for bankruptcy in this country is ? That’s right, Medical Bills, a person has to loose EVERYTHING, Before the State starts to help. Hope you dont get Cancer, and get canceled for a precondition.
It’s also a Big problem for business. The cost is to much to hire more or they have to fire, or close the doors, because of the cost. You must cover people who might get hurt on the job

To do nothing is the worst thing to do. We pay the most and get the least, and the worst plan is better than what we have. And your plan keeps going up faster and faster. It is killing this country.

This PARTISAN bill will kill this country. When the US is bankrupt, only an elite few will have any health care.

I find it amusing that the points for the reform keep changing. Democrats began by saying that we needed to reduce expenses by utilizing prevention instead of utilizing emergency rooms for care. Now the bill reduces prevention to reduce costs. The bill was supposed to reduce HC costs (that were unsustainable), and now we see that it will raise taxes and expenses on everything related so that the actual overall costs will go up for all people and businesses. They realized that the cost of the program is outrageous, so they begin collecting taxes immediaely and begin benefits in four years to deceive (and this was reform that we supposedly needed “NOW”). Democrats realized that many uninsured people chose to be ininsured. They realized that they needed penalize them and threaten them with jail time to make their plan viable.

Food Stamps, No, besides You Calling Us hired help ” Poor Devils “, you in your safari hat, making Us Call You BooWana, and the Armed Guards
It was that you had piped in throughout your compound, inside and out, FOX NEWS. It made us feel what it must be like for those guys in Getmo.

Well happy Thanksgiving, which reminds me to ask you, what endangered species will you be eating “this year “?

^Thank you! I think I will cook up some baby seal that I clubbed while visiting the Arctic this year. I’ll save the endangered species for X-mas Dinner.

You have a fine Thanksgiving yourself!

one more thing for the moose: Dude, I’ve been there and done ALL of that. I work my tail off so it wouldn’t happen again. I didn’t ask for ANYONES help to get back on top of things and I didn’t expect the government to take on my responsibilities.

I’m retired but I see, talk to and try to help those that are in need. To the last person when I ask them what they need they say a JOB. That’s the one thing our government won’t try to “stimulate”. But they will lie to you and say how many jobs they have “saved”.

And you are wrong about the “state” waiting until you are distitute before you qualify for aid. I know…been there done that. It’s a large pain in the posterior but it’s do-able.

Here’s a get off program for you. Get off your butt and walk around your neighborhood and talk to your neighbors and find out who needs what. Talk to the homeless people on the corner and see who they are. -sigh- sorry but u did strike a nerve there moosie

I went to a local dhs office to see what is actually going on.

The only thing I noticed was numerous African Americans wearing Obama change has happened shirts.

I also noticed there was one public free phone towards the back. About every five minutes certain people would make short calls.

I guess change has happened. They can run there drug sales at the local dhs offices.

Warrior77 (there are so few real warriors left) do you think anyone will jump up and call you racist for those comments? Never mind the eyeballs on the situation. Those places are there to help the poor and downtrodden (is that a word?) and they should be allowed to conduct business there - and no you have no right to restrict the business they choose. What’s that your tax dollars? Oh no those are the gov’s tax dollars and you have no say in how they are used. yep yep hope and change….
