In the one court case, over an incident like this, the cameras were being activate remotely by the school to take the pictures.

Definitely need to cover the lens, if it is not your own computer. Even then, cameras can be hacked to take pictures.

The school district lent out laptops to students. It was reported that the documentation the students signed spelled out that the cameras could be activated. The cameras were to be used to find ‘lost’ laptops. I’m not sure of what the outcome of the court case was, but I believe the school had every right to track down public property. This happened before the advent of locator apps and GPS trackers and those things only work if the device has the HW installed initially.

My children will not be accepting any school equipment then, beyond regular library and textbooks.

It is a shame most people are like her they do not realize that in the end we will have to pay for it.

As the “children” are able to fabricate stories about what adults do to them and others -and regularly do so- cameras are a good means of documenting what actually took place. Next step: mobile cameras monitoring the administrators and parents!

I think the parents should have been the ones to sign those documents, not the students. Getting a laptop would have been a big deal and I’m sure the students weren’t going to read all the wherefores and thereas. The parents at least, would have been informed as to what would happen before they signed it.
