Pulitzer Prize editorial cartoonist Signe Wilkinson spread her wings and created Family Tree, allowing her to write and draw outside the left/right, headline-driven box of daily editorial cartooning. A contemporary family comic strip, it chronicles the humorous challenges that Ames, Maggie, Twig and Teddy encounter when trying to live "green" and with environmental purpose.

School bus? Back in my day we had to walk to school itself. Barefoot, in the snow, uphill both ways.

I think you’ve been drinking Barefoot! ;-)
(Barefoot is a brand of wine)

America. In Japan, you will see 6 year olds walking blocks to school, or riding the train to school by themselves. It is not uncommon.

5 years old in Fargo ND I walked home alone from kindergarten, only a block or so
The only time my mother really worried was one day there was a blizzard and I was late coming home
The pile of snow left by the snowplows in the parking lot was enormous and I was too busy playing King of the Hill to pay attention to the time

Came in to my Jr. High one winter ess than a mile away, so I was expected to walk – to find homeroom underpopulated. The teacher said the missing must have gotten cold waiting for the bus.

I drive my girls to the bus stop and pick them up everyday. On the few times I can’t their older brother walks to meet them. You can never be too careful.
