    Good morning, everybody…

It’s “National Candy Corn Day,” today. Did you know that that stuff has been around since the 1880’s? It was invented by George Renninger of the Philadelphia Wunderle Candy Company. There are about 20 million pounds sold annually. I had to resort to the ‘net for a recipe. Here it is…

    Link to a recipe.

It seems to be in vogue to “hate” candy corn, but I must confess that I always have liked it, and always looked forward to eating my Halloween “take.”

On this day in 1936 English pilot Captain James A. Mollison set two new records for crossing the Atlantic Ocean. (I know my source is wrong about one of them; 13 and 19 hours add up to 32 hours, but I couldn’t find which one was actually set today. I’m going with the Harbor Grace, Newfoundland (then an independent country) to Croydon, England.) The Newfoundland to Croydon crossing took 13 hours and 17 minutes, and was accomplished in a Bellanca Monoplane.

The other record Captain Mollison set was between New York and London at a time of 19 hours and 56 minutes.

The “Bellanca Aircraft Corporation of America” was founded in 1927 by Giuseppe Mario Bellanca, an immigrant to the U.S. from Italy, in Richmond Hill New York.

Here is a link to a Bellanca Monoplane taking off in 1927.

    Good morning all!

Uh Oh! Busted! Better get your stories straight kids.
Alexi, I wish that you had been with our team at trivia last night. They asked how many pounds of candy corn is sold each year.

You don’t need hits on top 40 to be influential and important to music history. “Sweet Jane”, “Caroline Says II”, “Perfect Day” and “Street Hassle” all were wonderful, lyrical songs.

Had another great sunny day but this is supposed to be the end of it. Is your weather up for a change? It has been a great run

    Good evening all!

Turned off the TV, and I can still hear the cheering from down the street. Pretty cool.
