Tomorrow (Tuesday) will involve a road trip in beautiful sunny weather in my freshly washed Charger! How

    GRITS

will that be? Akenta, it has come to my attention that these days with multiple holidays is causing a massive drain on the Bookers supply!

good morning and happy tuesday locos JFri don’t worry about the Bookers, I’ll be on vacation soon, plenty of time to stock up while I’m gone. Eid al-Adha (Feast of Sacrifice) is starting around the world for 4 days. The only other holiday I can find so far is Dia do Professor in Brazil.

    Good morning, everybody…

It’s “National Mushroom Day,” today. Since we are supposed to be celebrating let’s have some fancy ones.

From: a booklet titled,”Mushrooms At Home”
    _Authentic Canadian Mushrooom Recipe Book
    Compiled and Published by the
    Canadian Mushroom Growers (sic)
    Association 1568 Carling Avenue Ave.
    Ottawa, Ontario K1Z 7M5
Hungarian Mushrooms (note beginning “This recipe…” forms part of the recipe)

This recipe indicates the fine blend of flavors achieved when mushrooms and sour cream are cooked together. These are particularly good with noodles and pork chops or meat loaf. To make a delicious supper casserole, add cooked ham, chicken, canned salmon or tuna to the mushrooms.

    1/2 pound ( 1 pint ) mushrooms
    2 teaspoons sliced green onion
    1/4 cup butter
    2 teaspoons chopped parsley
    1/4 teaspoon paprika
    1/4 cup flour (scant)
    1 cup chicken bouillon
    1/4 cup dairy sour cream
    1/4 teaspoon salt
    Pepper
    Cracker crumbs

Wash mushrooms; cut large ones in pieces but leave small ones whole.
Sauté mushrooms and oninion in half the butter about 3 minutes.
Pour into a shallow casserole and toss with parsley and paprika.
Blend flour into the rest of the butter and any juice left in frying pan.
Gradually stir in bouillon and then sour cream, salt and pepper.
    Heat until thickened, stirring constantly.
Pour over mushrooms in casserole, sprinkle with a few cracker crumbs and a dash of paprika.
Bake until mushrooms are tender and crumbs begin to brown – 15 to 20 – minutes in 350° oven.
    4 servings.

On this day in 1844 the German philosopher, Friedrich Nietzsche, was born.
It was after his resignation from the University of Basel in Switzerland in 1879, that he wrote the works for which he is famous. (Although, sadly that fame did not come until after his fall into insanity in 1889.) Some of those works were:
    “Thus Spoke Zarathustra”
    “Nietzsche contra Wagner” and
    “Beyond Good and Evil”
“Nietzsche contra Wagner” was written about his break with the composer Richard Wagner with whom he was once friends. Wagner finally accepted the new German Empire, which Nietzsche did not. Too, Wagner’s anti-Semitism and hatred of the French also contributed to the break.
Nietzsche created the concept of the übermensch (or super or over man). A man who uses his passions in creative activity.
    Nietzsche died in 1900.
