    Good morning, everybody…

There’s pumpkin bread at “Adam@Home” today.

It’s “National Guacamole Day” today. I don’t even remember what an avocado tastes like. I know that as a kid, I tried it once. That’s it, once. But. as I was a kid, maybe I’ll buy one and try it for supper tonight.

    Guacamole

“Don’t purée the avocados; an authentic guacamole contains small chunks of avocado. Serve with tortilla chips.” (quoted)

    2 large ripe avocados
    5 tablespoons minced onion
4 canned, peeled green chili peppers, chopped fine
    1 clove garlic, minced
3 tablespoons lemon juice or vinegar
    1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
    Salt to taste

    Peel and seed the avocados.
Mash one avocado in a bowl, and finely chop the other.
Mix the two with remaining ingredients.
Cover and refrigerate for several hours before serving.

On this day in 1620 the “Mayflower” set sail from Plymouth, England with either 101 0r 102 passengers (I’m assuming they were all pilgrims) aboard.

The “Mayflower” was built about 1609. She was about 90 feet long, and weighed in around 180 tons.

The crossing took 65 days. She left to return home on April 5, 1621.

There is no credible evidence that she went on to become a slave ship(as some believe), but much evidence to say she was scrapped after the death of her captain and 1/4 owner, Christopher Jones, in 1622. There are some who believe that her scrapped timbers and keel are part of a barn in the village of Jordans, near to London.

Here is a link to the “Mayflower II” website. The “Mayflower II” was built in 1957 and was given to America as a symbol of friendship. Its crossing took only 54 days.

    @Alexikakos

I love guacamole, and avocados, and for that matter, pumpkin bread. It is, sadly, that time of year, when pumpkins are plentiful. Nothing against pumpkins, just autumn! :-D

johnny, re: last night, it must be sort of tough on Eli being “Little Bro”. But, like Peyton said, it’s hard on the family, and unless they end up in the playoffs together, this was the last time they’ll play against each other. And then of course, we have the Harbaugh brothers.

Fall is definitely in the air here. First significant rainfall all summer, along with thunder and lightning.
