    Good morning, everybody…

    @ Akenta (from yesterday)

Akenta, my cook book library doesn’t extend that far, so I had to go to the web. I could find nothing for Tzom Gedaliah, but there are many sites with recipes for Yom Kippur here is one.

It’s “National Wiener Schnitzel Day” today. I had my choice of two wiener schnitzel recipes, one used bacon and one didn’t. I wondered to myself “Which one? Which one………?,” and then I remembered I was posting on Gocomics. :-)

WIENER SCHNITZEL I (Credited to: Marilyn Buckner)

    6 slices bacon
    2 veal steaks
    Flour, salt and pepper
    Plenty of paprika
    1 small onion
3/4 cup chicken stock (bouillon below)
    1 tablespoon tomato paste
    1/4 cup sour cream
    1 teaspoon minced parsley

Fry the bacon, remove from the pan.
Mix flour, salt, and pepper, cut the veal into serving portions and roll in the seasoned flour.
Sprinkle paprika into the bacon fat until it becomes pink, sauté the veal in the hot fat, turning once, until it becomes golden brown.
    Remove veal.
Mince the onion, crumble 2 pieces of the bacon, and add them to the fat in the pan.
Dredge the veal pieces very lightly with a little more flour and let stand while you add bouillon and tomato paste to the mixture in the pan.
Blend and simmer a few minutes.
    Stir in the sour cream.
Return veal to the pan, cover, and let simmer for about 20 minutes until veal is tender.
Sprinkle with parsley and serve. About 6 servings.

On this day in 1754 William Bligh was born in Cornwall, England. He became Captain of the Bounty, at the age of 33, on the 16th of August 1787.

The Bounty was refitted to carry her expected cargo of breadfruit trees from Tahiti to the West Indies, and set sail (from Spithead on the south coast of England by the Isle of Wight) for Tahiti (then called Otaheite) on December, 23, 1787.

The voyage to Tahiti took ten months. The Bounty first attempted to reach Tahiti by rounding Cape Horn at the toe of South America, but was unable to do so due to severe weather. Bligh turned the ship around, and proceeded eastward to round Cape Agulhas at the southern tip of Africa. The ship finally arrived at Tahiti on October 26, 1788 and remained there five months. Acting Lieutenant Fletcher Christian married Maimiti during this period.

The Bounty (laden with breadfruit trees) left Tahiti on April 4, 1789. The famous mutiny took place on April 28 1789.

Bligh became governor of New South Wales in the Australian Colony in 1808. He had trouble there too when he tried to suppress the liquor trade which resulted in the “Rum Rebellion.”.

    Two final tid-bits:

    1. Bligh was nicknamed “Breadfruit Bligh,” because it was he who discovered the breadfruit tree while serving as sailing master under Captain Cook on his second voyage around the world from 1772 to 1775.

2.He died in Bond Street, London on December, 6, 1817. His tomb is topped by a breadfruit.

Good morning all! Speaking of grind johnny, just got fitted for my crown on that tooth I broke last week. What a pain in the butt, and now my mouth is all crooked from the novacaine. I can’t even drink my coffee! :-(

Wiener Schnitzel, love that stuff. A German restaurant around these parts used to serve the best, then they burned down and never re-opened.

No Shika it doesn’t hurt, it just feels WEIRD! The worst parts were the novacaine which hung on for 5 hours, my face was crooked, my nose was numb, and I had to go back to work! And of course everyone made fun of me, good naturedly, I love the folks I work with! Thank goodness it wore off by my lunchtime! I was HUNGRY! And when they took the fitting, with that mouth/teeth thingy and the putty, I had to hold that in my mouth grip for 3 minutes. I felt like that putty was going down my throat and I would choke on it, so I tried to focus! Man, 3 MINUTES SEEMS LIKE ETERNITY SOMETIMES!

Sometimes being in the dentist chair is a sadistic form of torture. Hold your mouth open for an hour and have the dentist ask you things when your mouth is full and full of Novocain, lol Like the time he froze my tongue and then drilled a hole in the side of it.
Of course, I had no idea what happened. Just this look of horror on his face and the appearance of a towel stuffed in my mouth. He said, “did that hurt?” And I said, " Did what hurt?"
He gave me Tylenol 3 for when the freezing wore off. I now have an indentation in my tongue….

Being in the dentist’s chair is always a sadistic form of torture. That is why I only go once every few decades.
