    Good morning, all.

    There’s pecan pie at “Shoe,” and fried egg-plant at “The New Adventures of Queen Victoria” today.

    In honour of the Yukon Territory being organized today in 1898, a little ditty by Robert Service.

    THE BREAD-KNIFE BALLAD

    I

    A little child was sitting
    Upon her mother’s knee,
    And down her cheeks the bitter tears did flow;
    And as I sadly listened
    I heard this tender plea;
    ’Twas uttered in a voice so soft and low:—

    Chorus:

    Please, Mother, don’t stab Father with the bread-knife,
    Remember ‘twas a gift when you were wed.
    But if you must stab Father with the Bread-knife,
    Please, Mother, use another for the bread.

    II

    “Not guilty!” said the Jury,
    And the Judge said: "Set her free;
    But remember, it must not occur again;
    And next time you must listen
    To your little daughter’s plea,"
    Then all the Court did join in this refrain:—

    Chorus…

    I have never seen the music for this, unfortunately, but it makes a good poem on its own, I think.

    good morning and happy thursday locos. It’s so hard to spell some of these countries correctly – not sure how I missed that Brazil was spelled wrong. Not that many holidays to mess up today…

    Romania has Ascension Day. Spain is observing Romería de San Antonio.

    As paella in a 12 foot diameter pan is a traditional dish for Romería de San Antonio…. (I leave it to you to figure out how much to increase the ingredients listed below so as to make a paella to fill a 12 foot diameter pan.)

    While saffron is not listed as an ingredient below, I’m going to say half a teaspoon could be added with the chicken broth.

    Source for 12 foot diameter Paella

    From: “Miss Fluffy’s Rice Cook Book”

    Published By: Rice Council for Market Development

    (early to mid 60’s?)(It’s actually more of a pamphlet than book and there is no further publishing data listed.)

    Received: Compliments of DELTA RICE

    PAELLA

    3 tablespoons vegetable oil
    1 2-pound chicken, unjointed
    1 pound pork, cut in half-inch cubes
    1 onion, chopped
    1 clove garlic, minced
    3 ripe tomatoes, peeled and diced
    2 cups rice, uncooked
    4 cups chicken stock, hot
    1/4 teaspoon pepper
    1 pound raw shelled, deveined shrimp

    Heat oil in frying pan.
    Brown chicken parts.
    Drain and set aside.
    While oil is still hot, add pork and cook until well seared.
    Add onion and garlic.
    Cook until tender but not brown.
    Add tomatoes and cook for 5 minutes, stirring constantly.
    Pour in rice and cook 5 minutes more.
    Add broth and seasonings.
    Pour into baking pans.
    Place chicken parts on top.
    Cover with a tight lid or foil.
    Place in a 350 degree oven and bake for 15 minutes.
    Remove from oven and add shrimp,
    Recover and return to the oven for another 15 minutes.
    Serves 8.
    (If parboiled rice is used, bake 35 minutes before adding the shrimp.)

    Good morning all!

    I always like hearing my Grandmother tell stories of our family history.

    Alexikakos I can’t keep reading your recipes in the morning, they make me hungry, and I rarely have the time to make them myself haha.

    Baldo, if your family has two hundred years of history, the least you can do is to listen to it for at least 20 minutes!
