Game 2 of the finals was

    GRITS!

We shut out Edmonton 3-0 after losing 1-4 last night. We held them to 3 shots on goal in the 1st period, 11 in the 2nd and 2 in the third! Akenta, we can celebrate that, can’t we?

Most people don’t know that back in 1912, Hellmann’s mayonnaise was manufactured in England. In fact, the Titanic (It was common for passenger ships to carry some general cargo as well as passengers in the heyday of steam.) was carrying 12,000 jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after its stop in New York.

This would have been the largest single shipment of mayonnaise ever delivered to Mexico. But as we know, the Titanic did not make it to New York and her cargo was forever lost to the depths of the Atlantic Ocean.

The people of Mexico, who were ( and still are) crazy about mayonnaise, and were eagerly awaiting its delivery, were disconsolate at the loss.

Their anguish was so great, that they declared a National Day of Mourning, which they still observe to this day.

The National Day of Mourning occurs each year on May 5th and is known, of course, as Sinko de Mayo

good morning and happy sunday locos. Today is Orthodox Easter. Japan and South Korea have Children’s Day. Romania has Mother’s Day (the US will celebrate it next Sunday, so you have week left to cards and gifts). Thailand has Coronation Day. Mexico’s Batalla de Puebla was covered above by Alexikakos, though I think there was a little more fighting on the ship over the cargo. JFri I think it’s best to save the celebration after the last game so the team isn’t jinxed…

LilG, in the years that I have known her rarely gets sick and when she does she gets rid of it quickly. This last week she got what appeared to be a cold, but has progressed into something else. If she is worse tomorrow I am going to try and talk her into going to the doctor.

Hola, locos! Life must be pretty SWEET to have everyone away. It is indeed a beautiful day. I just popped in before I start to cook a casserole for another potluck. I’ll be back, but hopefull, not late. I have to get up really early to go to a friend’s clothing.

This is a ceremony where she receives her habit. She is becoming a nun. I am proud to see her pass this milestone. I remember when she was just thinking about it.
