Allgood manipulated the High Council but Jake changed the game.

Allgood’s in serious trouble if someone doesn’t step in. This set up is too deep, the weapon is either useless or out of ammo. Jacob has had too much confidence despite being supposedly unarmed.

Of course this all raises the curious questions, who’s this mystery person, and just how large scale is this cavalry?

I thought we decided that the gun was unloaded? Would the rats turn on him if he fired? Jake may be thinking that ‘He won’t" . The villin is always cocky like that.

Allgood: “If you want a blast, I have your ‘blast’ right here!”
Jake: “Don’t tease. The children are watching.”

By “cavalry”, Jacob is referring to himself. He will get the telecast going for the Milk Three’s sentencing and the initial stages of summary execution. And then Mr Jackrabbit will appear, dramatic as you like, and save the prisoners. It will be either legal argument or something with more showmanship. He will not only win the women their freedom, but he will trash Allgood into the bargain and expose the Council as a bunch of stooges who were placed there by Allgood. He will explain this must never happen again. In the interim, until a new council can be elected by more democratic means, a governor must be appointed in a caretaker role. He will rule himself out for this role, excepting of course that the voices of the people demand it of him. That being the case, he will remain only until the curent crisis is over, except of course if any new emergency circumstances arise in that time.
That’s usually the way to do it.

Fair enough, but he can’t do it alone. While he is using himself in the role of the cavalry, he does in fact command an impressive following.

My question isn’t so much about him, as it is an investigation of just HOW deep his influence runs, just how many people in how many dangerous places does he manage?

Either way you’re right, this is bad news. He steps out as the white knight, and the people will want him leadership. Once he receives that leadership role he can publicly enact his ideals and ride the explosive support of the people into the ground, “for the good of Endtown.”

I always thought that an interesting twist in a situation like this might be …
Jake:By the way … your weapon is loaded with blanks.
Allgood:Know what, numbskull? At this range … it really doesn’t matter!
(Blanks can be dangerous, even lethal, at close range.)
More likely …the gun will be unloaded.

Allgood may indeed have a perfectly functional gun. Jackrabbit may have warned the Rat Security to watch for this moment. There may have been some weapons pointed at him the whole time. The moment Allgood raises his, he will be shot. This is all to the plan.
Then Jackrabbit staggers back onto the TV stage. "Folks – during that break, Mr Allgood grabbed a gun and ran down the corridor and shot the entire council. And they shot him. And then they all buried themselves. And wrote signed confessions.

Somehow I feel reminded of Star Wars. Jackrabbit in the role of Palpatine

It doesn’t matter if the gun is not loaded. Allgood is five times the size of Jacob, and the gun would still make a decent cosh. So why is Jacob so confident??

Because there are hidden safeties that we’re not yet aware of.

Maybe if one of the rats hit Allgood in the back of the head with a bottle…
