It's the End of Civilization as we know it. A mutagenic plague followed by a global war fought with disintegration weaponry has left much of the Earth a desert of fine powder and what remains of humanity fragmented into humans, animal-like mutants and bloodthirsty monstrosities with lots of teeth. The surface, still teeming with the mutagenic virus, has become the domain of the dreaded Topsiders; well-organized, technologically advanced, and heavily armed un-mutated humans sworn to exterminate mutations of any kind in order to clear the way for the eventual resurgence of a new, genetically clean humanity. Faced with annihilation, mutants and "impure" humans have retreated into the depths of the planet to form communities and hope to win, or at least survive, what may prove to be mankind's final war. Endtown is the continuing story of one of those communities.

What’s the sound of one hand clapping?

People forget that while lying about data can fool the general public, using those lies on yourself doesn’t magically make it true.

You can cook the figures, but most Endtowners would rather cook with their own milk and eggs.

Even Velda can’t cook those numbers anymore.

I think this is the funniest thing that you have ever written Aaron. Government poll made by optimists. Willing to claim that the answer is pro instead of against. A little hemming and hawwing by the pollest could be translated in what any way the poller wants it to sound. AND probably does. I have taken in the past and even yesterday… l-2-3-4-5 as 1 as not interested to 5 as greatly interested. OHH Yes.

It may be vile, but is it better than beans? Seven out of eight poll responses apparently say so.

I am startin to wonder who the real target of his action is….Allgoods foundation is really vey weak now.

Allgood is all bad in the popular press
The pollster is parroting, data’s a mess
But there’s still a sole Endtown denizen left
Still, this takes away from Allgood’s seeming heft
So rather than strengthening conflicts to come
This action leaves one side quite weak (and quite dumb)
Since Endtown the Comic is always first-rate
I’ll bet there are twists here, ’ere this would deflate

It took a while, but I finally went back and read this strip from the beginning.
At least, I presume Al and the late-somewhat lamented Hank Stillwater on a salvage run is the beginning.
At least now I understand more of what’s going on.

Well, now how would you answer a poll where the polling agency knew your name and address and probably controls the same rat pack who shot up the residences of two well liked people and manhandled, er, womanhandled, er, ah, rathandled, uh,er, ahem mutanthandled Maude and Holly, pleasant people(THWI) in a small community of 7,000 or so trying to survive or just get by in a dangerous world.
I would tell the polltaker what I thought they wanted to hear, if anything.
It is Friday, and we can only speculate what was published and what the gossip game produced. Jacob J will try to turn these events to his advantage.
Please remember to vote for Endtown 2.0(this strip) and Jenner’s Doc Rat and Endtown at TopWebcomics.
Thanks,
JusSayin

We had a similar event a week ago in Eugene, Oregon. A mass protest against firearms where 20 people showed up, that number including the media. Considering that Eugene is protest central (even an academically-challenged party/drug school like UofO has midterms and finals week), this strip reminded me of that event.
.
Another one was when I was working for a regulatory agency. A “storm of protest” against cutting second growth was going to happen to a national forest. Two girls smoking outside… 2000 year old redwoods, sure, protect them, but 30 year old second growth that is growing trunk to trunk needs the maintenance. One lightning strike and poof. The 2000+ fires in 2006 in northern California were largely the result of lack of maintenance. Same with Arizona two years ago and New Mexico last year.
